I'm psyched to see delonte return for a couple of reasons.

First: while the mob has stepped up the last few games, Delonte's ability to run the offense will make them that much better. As we saw in the few preseason games del played the mobs offense really clicked.
Nate, coming off screens,  Erden getting the ball when he's open, Marquise getting rewarded for the cut.  these things happen now but look for a far more efficient second unit offense when DW returns.

Second: wafer goes, Stephen Lasme returns. In preseason Del found open looks for Lasme and Erden with regularity, while i don't expect much court time for lasme i do expect the entire second unit will benefit.

Third: Rondo's foot. While Del can't fill Rondo's shoes he is a far superior option than Nate to run the offense if Rondo has to sit.

I'm very eager for Delonte to start playing for the C's again. I liked him back when he was a young pup and he'll be a great piece for the C's.

Rondo's not quite right, so having another combo guard will give Doc the option to rest him. Or at least cut his minutes down even more.

The only thing I think you're off on is Lasme, the team might bring him back but I don't see him being a contributer.

I can't wait to see Delonte play.  He'll be a nice addition.  Hopefully he can take out his aggression on the opposition like he does on Wafer.

Agree with Fafnir about Lasme.  I like him, but I think he would contribute less than Harangody can.

I don't see lasme contributing much either, but I do expect them to jettison the non factor wafer and bring him back.

So are you saying the second unit will benefit just from cutting Wafer for Lasme, or from Delonte?

I agree with the second, the first is a non-factor.

At this point I dont know what I would rather have insurance for, injuries to the bigs (Lasme), or Delonte going nuts (Wafer). Pretty good debate, but I have to say that Wafer has shown next to nothing.

thought I was pretty clear what i said but i'll repeat.

the second unit will benefit from having delonte run the offense. AND with Del back wafer becomes surplus, which means we may bring back Lasme. here I quote directly from the op "while i don't expect much court time for lasme i do expect the entire second unit will benefit (from delonte's return)."

"while i don't expect much court time for lasme i do expect the entire second unit will benefit (from delonte's return)."

The second clause of the sentence was what confused me. Without that parenthetic statement it reads as if Lasme will benefit the entire second unit.

The other benefit of Delonte is perhaps Ray won't have to play so much with the second unit to provide spacing. If we can finish out the first ten games with 8 wins without West I'll be very happy.

TP Arctic.  You highlighted many of the same reasons that I am looking forward to Delonte back too.  While I'm not a big "fan" of him, I see that he helps.

I am anxiously waiting for Delonte's return, too.

He has not been travelling with or playing with the team, so it may take him a few games to get comfortable with the rotations and his role.   I think it is fortuitous that his first game will be in Boston, where he has to be more comfortable at this point.  He will have missed Miami and LeBron twice, and that is a good thing, IMO.  I would rather have him in a comfort zone before he plays LeBron.  He knows LB's game, but LB also knows his.

2nd unit is going to sick with 3 ball handler on the floor at all times. More Rest for PP and Ray. I'm liking this youth movement so far, taking pressure off the BIG3. And we haven't seen Avery or Gody yet. Can't complain.  ;D

I think it was pretty clear based on the preseason that Delonte is going to be a great asset, primarily to give the second unit cohesion but also to provide legitimate insurance for Rondo.

Von Wafer has be a serious disappointment for me.  I was wrongly expecting him to be a contributor.  Not sure if it is worth the D-League or better to just cut him.

Nate has also been below my expectation although better last night.  It doesn't seem as though he is an effective #2-PG but probably better at #2-SG than Wafer has been.  I am just not that excited about a 5'-7" #2-SG.

The C's can only cut Wafer.  He's not a first or second year player, so they can't assign him to the D-League.

If not for the West suspension, I thought Lasme would make the team over Wafer, so it seems the Celtics didn't expect him to be a contributor either.  I doubt he would accept being 12th man every night (and inactive once Perk gets healthy), so once West returns I wouldn't be surprised to see him get his release.
