And as good as Baby can be with his hustle, shooting, and taking charges, it shouldn't be overlooked that part of Milwaukee's run came in the 2nd quarter when they got to the basket at will with Baby in the game and JO (a legit shot blocker) out.
Still love Baby, but we're going to need our 7-footers too this year. And I'm not so crazy about these Baby/KG lineups. As others have said, KG doesn't seem to be the rebounder and shot blocker he was a few years ago. Of course that's why a BBD/JO bench pairing might work out nicely down the road.
I'm looking forward to Baby being pushed to the 4th or 5th spot in the big man rotation. His offensive brilliance is doing wonders for us right now, but I don't expect him to sustain it (he's connecting on 78% of his at-rim shots!). Meanwhile his limitations as a man defender, help defender and rebounder are still there.
The sooner JO gets semi-comfortable with his teammates and starts eating into Baby's minutes, the better. He's capable of doing everything Baby's doing right now offensively only with better work on the boards and much better defense.
All those charges he draws aren't on his own man. That's help defense. He will never challenge shots like JO(he is an amazing shot blocker) but I feel that his overall impact and energy is greater. Playing baby at his natural position of power forward neutralizes his shortcomings to an extent.
It's a bonus that Baby can play some center minutes, not a negative.
We'll, it's a positive he can play the "5" right now (though I suppose you could argue it's KG who is really playing the 5, given that he's taller than most NBA centers). However, if Doc keeps these KG/BBD lineups going after everyone is healthy, we'll have some serious problems.
While Baby's made the most of the minutes he's had, if Shaq was taking some of those minutes, we likely would've won both of the past two games without having to go to overtime.
Still, I don't think Doc plans to keep using that lineup. I think right now he's simply forced to.
Hopefully Shaq will be back soon.
