His comments are pretty frustrating.  I may not be remembering this correctly, but wasn't it KG that yelled "Happy Mother's Day, mother (bleeps)" to Tim Duncan after his mother passed away when they played on Mother's Day?

For all of you saying Larry did the same thing, I can't imagine him ever ripping into Magic for having HIV.

I don't think that's apples to apples.

But, someone other than  Magic, a guy who he didn't like much who he thought he could mess with and get a competitive advantage over? Yeah, I could see that. At least, I wouldn't be surprised.
Considering the Merry Christmas story among many others I think Larry would say anything to get under an opponents skin.
I don't see the Merry Christmas story as being anything at all controversial.  He was just kind of being funny/cocky.  He wasn't ridiculing someone's disease.  What would your opinion be of someone like Kobe ripping into Ray about his son?

Apparently the players feel that's different, because I was listening to a Ray Allen interview where they discussed it and the unwritten rule seemed to be that player's kids are off limits for trash talking.

I bet they decide these rules at a clandestine meeting in a PF Changs during All-Star weekend.

No, they probably just all get together and beat up guys that don't follow the rules, the JR Ryder types.

Explain Ron Artest. Is it possible that only he can stand against the league of unwritten rules?

Ron-Ron's a complicated case. He breaks the rules, then feels very remorseful. In effect, he psychs himself out of the game with his own trash talk. All the opponent has to do is sit back and watch the drama unfold.

Just wanted to post this here since KG got a lot of flak for this incident (including here on this blog)...nice gesture by KG.

Quote
Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, who was criticized last month for trash-talking that was seen as mocking cancer patients, spoke to Nuggets coach and cancer survivor George Karl after Wednesday night's game to explain the comments.

"I went up to him as a man, and what I said is that I had nothing personal toward him nor any other cancer patient that was out there struggling, dealing with life situations," Garnett said. "I wanted to say that to him, man-to-man."
