Does anyone actually believe KG had this well written long winded grammatically correct trash talk, that he claims?  I mean come on it just isn't believeable.  I'd buy KG said someting to the effect of "You're a cancer" with the intent in the way KG says in his statement, but no way in hell he said "you are cancerous to your team and the league".  Just not believable as trash talk in the heat of the moment.  And if he said you're a cancer I could see how Charlie V would take offense.

Normally I would say no but it is unlike Doc to come out and lie about this type of stuff.
Doc is just supporting his player.  What coaches always do, and he probably realized KG's intent as well?  KG's statement of what he said just isn't believable.

He could have said "you're a cancer" and CV might have heard "you've got cancer". Does he listen intently to every word that KG says when he's being berated?

That's pretty much my feeling on the subject.

His comments are pretty frustrating.  I may not be remembering this correctly, but wasn't it KG that yelled "Happy Mother's Day, mother (bleeps)" to Tim Duncan after his mother passed away when they played on Mother's Day?

For all of you saying Larry did the same thing, I can't imagine him ever ripping into Magic for having HIV.

I don't think that's apples to apples.

But, someone other than  Magic, a guy who he didn't like much who he thought he could mess with and get a competitive advantage over? Yeah, I could see that. At least, I wouldn't be surprised.
Considering the Merry Christmas story among many others I think Larry would say anything to get under an opponents skin.
I don't see the Merry Christmas story as being anything at all controversial.  He was just kind of being funny/cocky.  He wasn't ridiculing someone's disease.  What would your opinion be of someone like Kobe ripping into Ray about his son?

What if the player that Bird said Merry Christmas to was Jewish or Muslim? That would practically be a hate crime.

Bird may have been able to fly, but he was no angel. It wasn't like he was just good natured jokes and blue collar work ethic.

That’s why I loved Bird – because he had no fake in him. He was an assassin and he took pride in destroying your confidence on the court if he could.

I had two memorable run-ins with him. The first was my first start as a rookie in the Boston Garden. He walked out for the jump ball and asked out loud who the (expletive) was going to try and guard him that night? Once he realized it was me, he immediately walked over and told me that he was going to destroy me – which he did with ease.

The next encounter was the following year, but I was a different player and was having a breakout year. I happened to be in one of my zones and was berating Bird all game long when he told me all I could do was score. The next play I gave him a head fake, popped him in the mouth and drew a foul. While I was shooting the free throw, I said out loud, “I can make you bleed too.”

He tried like heck to get me back the rest of the game, but didn’t succeed.

I thought it was over when I was in the safe haven of the locker room, but to my amazement I looked up and Bird had come in to hand me his hotel room key. He looked at me and said, “Why don’t you come over and we can finish what you started?”

I said I wasn’t going to do that so him, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish could beat me up. He started laughing and said, “We will finish this next year and I will not forget.”

I knew right then that Bird could have played on any playground where I grew up in Chicago and hold his own. Why? Larry Bird knew how to talk trash. I remember when he was wearing out Julius Erving and talking smack. Dr. J got upset and started to choke him. Bird responded with a right-handed punch.

    That boy was bad.

You can cover up for your player without telling a lie. Yes the statement seems odd and it probably is not word for word what was said but more accurate in context than the C.V version of events. Doc didn't cover up for the locker room fight several weeks ago, he didn't cover up Big Baby last year, ect....It seems out of character for him to start telling lies to defend his players.  Generally he holds them accountable and limits the details to what is already been reported to shield his players.

The media (and now the public who believes everything the media says after it's repeatedover and over)has completely missed the point.
What was so wrong about what KG said wasn't that it was hurtful to people with cancer. it's that KG was a loser for making fun of a guy's appearance caused by a disease. I can only imagine the mockery Charlie V withstood being a bald kid and having no eyebrows. It has to be some painful stuff he's endured, bad memories he'll never forget.
It wasn't right for Charlie to tweet this but he was obviously hurt by the comments. Probably makes him feel terrible. So he wants to fight back. People that say he should beat him on the court to get back..well.. he's not as good as KG. So he's just supposed to take it?
Going public wasn't right.i LOVE KG but what someone DESERVES in this scenario is to be punched right in the face. I wouldn't have blamed a guy for that. I would have felt good for that person. I realize there are repercussions for that action too but as Kenny Rogers sang, "Sometimes you gotta fight when your a man." A boxing challenge is a classy way to hash that out in my opinion.
If I was a media person I would ask Garnett, "If someone did say this to Villanueva, do you think it would be mean, cowardly action?
I know my conscience would bother me to much to not come clean and apologize.

The  media is completely missing the point saying this is about cancer though. It's about someone making fun of someone with another disease. This really drives me crazy.Everyone is running with this cancer thing now.

And you are completely missing the point, too.

This isn't kids. This isn't CV's high school bullies. These are grown men who say much nastier things than commenting on people's appearances. Hey, not too long ago SI would run the "NBA all ugly team" on their pages.

People really need to stop treating CV and KG as kids.

Absolutely.  However, most people on here would defend Ray if he made a similar complaint on Twitter.  I'd probably prefer that to Ray throwing a punch considering the implications, at least as a fan, but I would understand.  Either way, it was uncalled for, but is obviously being blown out of proportion.

Yeah see, I don't know how "most" people would react, but if Ray would've punched him in the face straight out, I would've been cool with that, if Ray punched him in the face, then explained over twitter why, I would've been cool with that..but if Ray just complained over twitter and we lost the game, I would have thought Ray to be a bit of a coward.

"Happy Effing Hanukkah!" would have been one less turn of the knife, something Bird would have avoided.

Apparently the players feel that's different, because I was listening to a Ray Allen interview where they discussed it and the unwritten rule seemed to be that player's kids are off limits for trash talking.
