I am concerned that too many middle aged white men are making judgments on what trash talk is being said in a basketball game.

I've played pick up games in Harlem.

That trash talk would make Charlie V suicidal.
So it has to do with race now?

Black players trash talk exponentially more. And are far more hilarious to hear play. This has been the case in basically any part of the US where I played ball. Trash talking developed in the urban courts.

It amazes me how so many are so quick to defend KG that they seem to have trouble seeing that this was wrong.
As far as CV tweeting it, I would disagree with that, but it does not, in any way, take away from the main fact that what KG did was wrong. Calling it trash talk is glorifying it to a level it does not belong in.
And to say everyone does it is just not true at all. To say that is to make every player in the nba look like a dumb jerk. I believe they deserve more respect than this.
It obviously bothered CV, as he tweeted it, so it is not always done in this way, as so many have said.
KG's words were unusually harsh, or maybe they are the usual for him, as he is 'famous' for his trash talk.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I am the type of person who tries to see the humor in things...

So if I'm Charlie V., the last thing I'd do is bring undue attention upon myself.  First, my career has been a disappointment.  Secondly, I'm one ugly dude, and if anyone is out there who doesn't know who I am and googled my image, there is no doubt they are laughing their butt off... :)

Fans defend the players they like/root for..or those who play for their team. Just like last year when you saw no fault in BBD getting into a fight and breaking his thumb.

Is it too much to ask for Celtics fans to chant "You're a cancer" the next time CV plays in Boston?

For me - if KG stated that his words were twisted or mis-communicated, then I accept his words. He has had a rep for a potty mouth throughout his career, so that is one reason why this has blown up.

This has been a part of KG (intensity, foul mouth) throughout his career. It's a part of him. It unquestionably makes him a great player and Champion.

And Human.

From the front page....

Doc's take on this (non)issue:

Quote
I'm not going to go off on a tangent on this whole thing. I actually heard what Kevin said - I was standing right there. What he released is what he said. I'm going to leave it at that.

I don't like the whole tweeting thing, I'll state that as well. I think guys talk on the court. Doesn't mean they should or shouldn't. The fact that we're talking about this, to me, is just silly, it really is. We should be talking about we had a hell of a game yesterday and let's talk about basketball. It's amazing to me that this stuff is news now. This is not sports

I used to play, and I can't imagine us running and talking about what was said.

Larry [Bird] has said some terrible things to me and I'm still hurt by them.

Someone please take a box of tissues to the next Celtics-Detroit game.

As I said before, trash talk is, by its own definition, offensive. It involves misogyny/racism/homophobia, and it takes place every time down the court. What line does "you are a cancer patient" cross that the other forms of trash talking do not?

That's a pretty valid point. I don't think what KG said was cool or anything..but really I don't care enough to get mad about it.

Seriously, this is like people being shocked to find out guys are doing nasty stuff in the pile in football.  Yes, NBA players do frequently say mean, often shockingly crude things to each other.  Stop the presses.

I've both heard and said worse things while playing basketball.  Some of it was joking, some of it wasn't.  And I'm guessing a lot of other people here have too.

Barefaced Monk, how about sticking to the subject at hand instead of trying to put me down. That's not a logical way to argue a point, is it?
Whether KG said you look like you have cancer or you are a cancer to your team and the league, both of those are horrible statements.
I disagree with saying there's nothing wrong with it. And I certainly don't believe all players trash talk. KG does; he's famous for it. Now we get a little hint of the flavor of trash talk he prefers.

Wasn't trying to put you down...I just said that a lot fans defend the players they like/root for/play for their team...just like you did with BBD last year. He was at fault yet you defended him on the front page and the forums....I didn't say what you did was wrong...just like the people defending KG here are not wrong.

And I certainly don't believe all players trash talk.

All players do...with varying degrees..but no one in NBA is devoid of this ability.

Contrary to the popular belief Tim Duncan and Ray Allen too have done it in the past...just because they don't do it now or do it once in a while does not mean they don't do it at all.

This is where it gets confusing. I was rather critical of KG's alleged comments until I think Drucci first posted KG's response.

KG, while foul-mouthed, has been a stand-up guy - at least from what I've seen as a fan. If he said that his comments were twisted, then I take him at his word.

It has been a Long Day. I hope that the thing CV takes from this is to talk to KG man-to-man in issues like this - if in fact KG said them at all.

I'm around technology all day at school, and this twitter thing has its place - but it can be mis-used.
