Does anyone have a theory on why Charlie V would do this?  Is he looking for publicity?

KG should have just flat out denied the entire exchange. He should have been like "Charlie who? I've never heard of him"
Charlie V loves to pout. He'll do it during games by just drifting on the 3 point line and refusing to get engaged.

My guess is that KG really p---ed him off. KG loves to go after players who he views as "stat guys". He's go after Magette for that several times. (Once screaming "way to get your numbers" at Corey after the Clippers lost to Garnett's team)

Yeah right, a cancer to his team wasn't Charlie the leading scorer for DET? no ones buying that

Because if your the leading scorer on a team, you certainly can't be a cancer.

No need to bring AI into this. AI consistently made the playoffs and played a heck of lot more defense than Charlie V did.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

I'm not even a Celtics fan, but I have no problem with KG's comments. I actually thought the comments were made in jest, but even as trash talking, I don't think it's as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be.

I think cancer is one of the worst things in humanity today, and I'm sure KG thinks the same. You can't take everything so seriously all the time. Villanueva looks like a baby crying on twitter (and in real life, for that matter).

His post was in direct response to a claim that since Charlie V lead the Pistons in scoring last night, he didn't fit the description of a cancer.

Perfectly on topic.

Regardless of it being on a basketball court or being in a bar it is still not the correct way to talk to people.

Its called trash talk....its never the correct way to talk to people. I'm sure KG doesn't refer to Charlie V in that fashion off court..it happened on the court...during a game...not in a bar.

So because his words come under the definition of "trash talk" it's okay?  You just said it's never the correct way to talk to people, so why does it make it okay if it's considered "trash talk"?

He didn't invite CV for a cup of coffee and then run his mouth off...it happened on court..during a game...2 people going at each other...each trying to win the game for his team. Why is it so hard for you to understand this? Trash talking on court by any athlete is not the same as the foul words used by guys in a bar fight. Different scenario...different context.

And yes its not the correct way to talk to people...but KG and CV weren't "talking" on the court...you are making it sound like KG refers to people in the same manner off court also.

I lost my father to cancer and I'm not offended. That said, KG does probably go a bit overboard sometimes. But he's a Celtic and we neeed his intensity. For better and for worse.

I doubt people would be as cavalier if Kobe Bryant made a "diabetes" crack at Ray during a game.

I would think: "Ah, finally showing his true colors"  ;) But the average NBA fan would probably not even notice. In fact, I doubt that it would be all over ESPN.

Wow.

With all the hate out there for Kobe the story would be 10X the size of this one...

He's still called a rapist on ESPN daily.

Fafnir - I don't agree with you here.

Allen Iverson was not a cancer during his NBA Career. You may accept crownsy's attempt at comparing AI to CV, but I don't.

Saying you think crownsy is wrong about Iverson is different from saying:

Crownsy being wrong is not the same as crownsy being completely off topic with an out of place post.

Iverson for his entire career played very hard at his perferred style of basketball. But his free lancing, defense optional, and ball dominant style was not everyone's cup of tea.

Besides I think his last 3 stops were sufficiently cancerous to make the analogy apt.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
If I were his coach, I'd make CV cancel the Twitter account and leave his cell phone in the car while he's at the arena.

If I recall correctly, while a member of the Bucks(?) he actually tweeted during half-time (of a Celtics game, of all teams) how his coach was trying to get the team to step up their intensity or effort (or something of the effect).

Not only is CV a cancer, but he's an idiot.

If it's discovered (and proven) that CV took comments by KG and twisted them and went public with them to paint (what I would call an NBA icon) in a bad light, Stern should put his foot down and suspend this jack-bleep for no less than 2 or 3 games and fine him.

Afterall, it's not like he'd be missed...

KG's statement seems like pure spin to me. Oh well, who knows what he really said.

You're a *bleep* cancer *bleep* *bleep* *bleep*

and

You look like a *bleep* cancer patient *bleep* bleep* bleep*

Charlie V would have probably been equally angry about both.

Honestly, I could believe either story.  What KG claimed he said would have been right on (although I am sure, as you say, he left some words out when repeating it), but I also wouldn't put it past him to make the cancer patient comment.

I also think that if CV has the ummm, gaul to tweet about this, I certainly wouldn't put it past him to twist the words a bit to make KG look worse.

Bottom line is: KG is a jackass on the court, and he always has been, and CV is a crybaby who has no idea how to deal with things like an adult.

Any AI - CV comparison is just speculation at this point. CV has never lead any of his teams anywhere.

AI lead PHI to the Finals, and lost to an LA team with Shaq in his prime.

The "cancer" comparison with AI is just serving to deflect the thread from KG and CV.

My real problem comes as someone who suffers from Alopecia Areata. I appreciate what Charlie does for people who have to deal with the more severe cases of this disease. Through his charity he's done a lot to bring awareness to the problem and comfort to many suffering emotionally. Unfortunately, I feel he let a lot of people down with his public display of insecurity.

On the flip side, maybe he's using this as an opportunity to shed some light on the issue.  Still, it's a poor way to go about it.

True its a tangent, but its still on topic.

The greatest thing about forums is that no one really dictates where the conversation goes. Crownsy made a point and you disagree, no need to demand all such talk stop.

In defense of CV, I dont know how anyone can understand what is coming out of that man's mouth on the basketball court. He's like a rabid animal. Totally insane. ;)

Then again i wouldnt have tweeted anything unless I was sure 100% that he said what I thought he did.
