Crossing the line.

The real problem is - KG doesn't nearly yap as much to the Tim Duncans and Kobes of the world. He picks and chooses when he's going to be a jerk on the court.

I go back and forth on this.  On one hand, that is kind of weak.  But the more I think about it, shouldn't KG be talking trash to the guys he is killing rather than the guys who he is struggling against?

I mean, the Kobe and Duncans of the world shut KG up with their play.  They earn his respect, and they also don't get rattled by the trashtalk.

He talks more to guys like CV, because he does nothing to earn respect.  He plays weak, and does nothing with his talent, and then goes whining on twitter afterwards.  That is EXACTLY the type of player you trash talk with, because you know you can get in their head.
Perhaps. But what about talking trash to players when he's in street cloths and not even playing? And the guy he's talking to isn't a scrub?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
A month or so back, someone on this blog used the word retard and about 20 posters jumped down his throat.  I guess a lot of people think it's perfectly fine to say innapropriate stuff while playing a game, but if you type that stuff at your computer, you're an insensitive jerk.

What if you are in a heated celticsblog debate?  I'm guessing it's not fine to insult other posters to prove your superiority.  NBA players must be such gladiators and competitive animals, that they get a pass for everything they say or do.  Especially the ones in the green uniform.

Forgive me for repeating myself, but I think there are places where it is more innapropriate than others to speak in certain ways.

On TV?

What really bothers me about this is that KG wasn´t in the least creative or funny.
If you´re using such a cheap and lame insult, do it with some class and taste.

Well, I mean...KG isn't exactly a wordsmith. Its not like he's going to dazzle you with his subtle use of wordplay and cut you with his rapier wit and metaphors. If he thinks you're self conscious about having no hair on your body he's going to call you a cancer patient, and its not going to subtle.

KG seems to be a pretty direct guy in that fashion.

I have no defense for that.  It was embarrassing.

if his intention was the rattle Villanueva and take his focus off the game with his trash talk... it probably worked.  Remind me to call that baby a cancer patient if I'm ever playing ball against him.

Ten pages on this?

Dudes say way, way worse stuff on the court than this. This is pretty tame, by comparison.

As far as trash talking goes, look at his intended audience.

I loved KG When he came around because I realized I wasn't the only insane borderline psychotic person playing. I was a pariah in Highschool in 93' because people thought I was crazy for the trash I talked keep myself motivated. Cursed myself & opponents all the time. I played with so much passion that even Referees would start over looking things I said because they all knew I meant no harm. Self motivational tools for a kid with a potty mouth. Thick skin players would laugh at things I said and say I'm crazy in fun, weak players like Villanueva I had my way with them start to finish. I would call them everything under the sun if it would give me the advantage of them thinking about What I said which leads to them playing bad. That said I am a total gentleman of the court with a big caring heart. Just a jerk on it! And Charlie V. is just looking for sympathy and more twitter followers! Get off twitter, work on your game and try to live up to your potential like KG has!

Next time KG talks trash, he should do his research:

"Villanueva had been stricken with alopecia areata, an autoimmune skin disease resulting in hair loss. The disease affects more than 5 million individuals in this country. It can lead to total scalp hair loss or complete body hair loss."

"Hair Loss patient" would have been more to the point... :)

Personally, I just think there is a right way to talk to a person and a wrong way to talk to a person.  Just play the game and shut up.  If you don't have the guts to run your mouths against guys like Tim Duncan, Kobe, etc then don't run your mouth at all.  We could sit on this board and discuss all of the bullying that has occurred in schools and I would hope most people here would say that it is wrong.  That's all KG is in these situations.  He gets on the players who aren't as tough, but when the big guys come out, the guy won't say a word.

I cannot believe how wussified we have become as a country that KG saying an insult you might have heard during an episode of "Welcome Back, Kotter" has led to 10 pages of whining about it.

I don't know why this comes up whenever there is a debate over KG's trash talk.

He has had a go at Kobe, Tim Duncan, Lamar Odom and even LBJ (last year). Maybe you don't remember because those players don't cry about it on twitter and leave it on the court.

Absolutely not true! I don't think KG pulls any punches. When Duncan and Garnett was young and in the mid 20's prime KG would do and say the same harsh things to Duncan. The only difference is Duncan doesn't talk back or look discourage by what he said. Duncan would let his play talk!  We beat the Lakers in 08' because Garnett mentally defeated Gasol! He called Gasol a "punk a** n**ga" in one game and Gasol isn't even black. Lol I am black and thought that was funny stuff knowing exactly what that word means . But when its used in a basketball game in the heat of the moment it doesn't carry the same context trust me! He not intentionally thinking of harmful things to say its just instant reactions that's being said!

I love the celtics but honestly screw K.G. He went too far with that.  The guy has been a huge bully since we won in 08 (Not to mention a theatrical wimp*). I can almost guarentee he would never say anything like that to the likes of Pau Gasol or Dirk Nowitzki because they would simply outplay him and make him eat his words. He is frustrated because he is no longer the player he used to be so he takes it out on weaker players. Just Cowardly IMO.

With all due respect...  But I'm not sure someone can say they love the Celtics and throw KG under the bus like this.  I'm also trying to see the difference between what KG said and the tone of your post.
