Luis Scola - Holy Crap

How about Luis Scola, huh?

It's only through 3 games, but Scola is currently averaging 27 boards and 16 rebounds a game, with 1 block a game as well.  That's nuts.  I remember Scola had a 40+ point game last year, but where is this coming from?  He's 30 and should probably be headed towards the downside of his career. 

If he maintains anything close to what he's doing now he's in the running for MIP.  Heck, right now he's probably the league MVP through 3 games (that is, he would be if his team hadn't lost all 3 of their games).

Scola is a stud.  He has played such a team oriented game that his numbers have always been less than what he's capable of.  Certainly the numbers will come down, but Scola is an excellent player.  Some media members were calling him the best player in the World Championships for awhile.

Several of the team USA players are doing great things early - KD, Odom and Rose come to mind as well. I don't think the Rockets will be down like this for long...

Having a (somewhat) healthy Yao to play alongside has to make things easier for Scola also.  When was the last time these two played together?  Scola's rookie year?  He had some growing pains that year too if I recall.  His game has adjusted to the NBA over the course of time.  Having a guy like Yao playing aside you (albeit for limited minutes) has to take a huge burden off of a fellow frontcourt player.

I like Sola i really do....but I think he's a little suspect the defensive end...but he sure makes up for it on offense...I actually met him cause i live in Houston pretty cool guy too...

DL is right, it is only three games but alongside Yao I could definitely see a season where he averages a double double and has a PER over 20. A big center that can take up space is the perfect compliment to his game.

Scola's numbers are great for 3games but the 0-3 start stands out more.From watching two of their 3 games i saw a team that has a lot of work ahead of them before they are a good team.With Yao playing only(24)minutes makes them play two different styles whereas its taking time for players to adjust.Unless Yao's minutes are increased down the road i don't see them  being that good for awhile.Even with Scola's impressive start to the season winning is still what counts.

Luis Scola has been producing some major numbers for quite some time now.

The signing of Eric Dampier will help the Rockets.

They are a below average defense team when Yao Ming doesn't play + only a good defensive team when he does play due to his minutes limitations and the lack of adequate defensive backup.

Bringing in someone like Dampier who can help tie together that defensive unit and keep Scola at his natural position will help out the Rockets considerably.

Signing Brad Miller was a major mistake for Houston. They needed a defensive anchor instead of a passing center.

It will be interesting to see if Scola's finds things more difficult in a few weeks when his opponents are more on their game. Not all of them played full bore during the summer like Scola did with his national team.
