Wait, are people calling JO a *bust* after two poor games? After he missed a chunk of preseason and was clearly rusty? After he looked pretty good (at least defensively) before he got hurt?
Wow. Two games.
Sometimes, I think I need another sabbatical from this place.
Don't mind me, Bird. It's not the two games; I haven't liked JO in the first place...at least since he started with the persistent health issues and missed games SIX YEARS AGO...then the palace incident...and hasn't been any good since.
Well, maybe it's time you start giving Jermaine a chance and showing some loyalty to the team?
Loyalty to the team? Are you serious?
This is suspiciously close to a call-out, which is explicitly not permitted. If you want to pick a fight, please go elsewhere.
Discussing the merits of the roster, including trades and acquisitions, is a very okay and normal thing to do. JO's lengthy and consistent track record of missed games due to aches and pains is surely within bounds, especially since he's now missing games in Green for the same thing.
I've written elsewhere that Danny's gamble this summer was on health of known talents, rather than gambling on the talent of healthy players. He may have lost the wager in JO's case, and perhaps given his extensive history of missed games, it was a bad bet.
To suggest discussing this in a discussion forum devoted to the team is somehow disloyal...well...I don't appreciate that.
You totally misunderstood me. I was NOT calling you disloyal nor am I picking a fight. I just get irritated when some people are constantly negative on certain players (Jeramine, Daniels-last year it was Rasheed.) I am just trying to say that we should enjoy the season and our players, NOT constantly harp on something that happen six years ago (ie...the fight at the Palace in Detroit.)
That's what I was trying to say - To just enjoy the team. Again I was NOT callng you disloyal nor picking a fight.
Thanks for responding. No bad vibes.
I'm not harping on something that happened six years ago, but for something that has consistently been an issue for JO
starting six years ago, continuing right now, and can reasonably be expected to continue: missing games due to non-crisis/surgery-warranting pain...aches, bruises, etc.
His track record is both long and clear, which I pointed out by posting 6 years worth of games played stats, with a couple of comments on that particular season. The topic was health, and missing 15 games due to suspension had nothing to do with that, so it seemed appropriate to note it next to 'games played.' Ditto for the number in a contract year.
Taking out the Palace year altogether and averaging the other 5 of the 6 years' games played, he averaged 58.6 games per year. I don't think the MLE is worth it for a guy with that sort of record of availability. Danny's a gambler, and this may have been a long shot. We'll see, of course, but JO sure hasn't done anything to suggest this season will be any different.
Especially if his body couldn't even handle freakin' training camp.
And I do like watching JO play. I'm a big fan of the dramatic weakside-rotation block, and he is among the best at it.
