Rondo's Post Game

We saw glimpses of Rondo's post game in years past (vs. Steve Nash and Brandon Jennings), and we've seen a heck of a lot more in the preseason.

I know Doc said he'd be posting up smaller guards but he seems to be posting everybody.  Jarret Jack and Devin Harris are certainly on the largish end of the point guard scale and Rondo's still gone for it, and with pretty good results.

It looks like he's got baby hooks with both hands, a nice drop step and a spin move. Of course his passing out of the post is exceptional

Do you think this strategy will make it into the core of Celtic playbook?

I hope it's not a staple feature of our offense, but i would like to see it used on occasion. I've been a big fan of it since that last game of the regular season against Milwaukee and Jennings that you had alluded to.

Nothing wrong with adding a little more Gary Payton to his game.

Won't happen against Kobe or Wade. But the fact that he is always expanding his game is very smart on his part. And it gives Celtics more option which is always a +PLUS. I always say Rondo has no ceiling. The game comes easy to him, a natural. He is truly a Joy to watch.

It's a catch 22 till we see if they try it. They really didn't bother to try to screen kobe off rondo/ post fisher when he had a cross match in transition because they weren't using it as an offensive weopen.

Posting a PG requires alot of effort if the other team is using another guy to guard, probably more than the celtics are willing to expend just to get rondo post opportunity, unless he shows off a sam cassell level low post game this year.

You could do it, not sure it's worth it for them to specifically make it part of there offense against the teams you mentioned and run plays just to get rondo post touches.

Or the Heat could run Wade at the point, with Miller at the 2.  Ray might be able to post up Chalmers at will, but he'll have a harder time posting Mike Miller.

outside of LBJ and Wade their whole team is just guys that can shoot open jumpers. None of them are really known for having above average defensive ability.

As opposed to us... who’s starting lineup has 2 great defenders, an above average one who has shown the ability to go toe-to-toe with other superstars, and a huge plug that will make anyone shy away from entering the paint.

...then our bench has a nice balance of hard nosed defenders that can do their fair share on offense (Delonte, J.O., Marquis) and guys that can spark the offense with shooting while creating havoc with through hustle play. (Glen Davis, Nate Robinson).

Then come playoff time we’ll have our secret weapon... The real Beast Kendrick Perkins.

Wouldn't Rondo taking the ball into the post force Kobe to play him more honestly?  One of our problems playing the Lakers is that Kobe would sag off Rondo to play a little more help defense.  Rondo's offense would be neutralized, but so would Kobe's ability to help off of Rondo.  I just don't see Kobe sagging off Rondo close to the basket.  Isn't this just more of the chess game that Doc can employ or am I off base here?
