Let me just start by saying that I am not naive enough to think that Tiny can step right in and replace Big Baby. I know that isn't the case. But I think my favorite part about the Tiny signing is that it lets me speculate about that kind of thing. If at some point Tiny can be a good big man off the bench that would make Baby expendable. And since he has been complaining, it might be worth moving him. I'm not saying that day will definitely come, I'm just saying its fun to think about. This is all hypothetical.

But at the same time I don't think it's totally out of the question. Gallon was only drafted a handful of spots after Baby and has the size to be effective in ways that Baby simply can not. If Gallon develops, I think he might be a better backup for this team just because he is so much bigger. But again, I'm not sure that day will ever come.

So who could we get for him then? A backup three is the obvious target. But I'm not sure who is out there. Who do you think we could get for Baby if we tried to trade him?

Gallon will be in the d League. We're going to need Baby because of the games that Shaq, Jermaine, and Perk miss.

I would trade Baby for the mascot of the Phoenix Suns... Id even throw in a second pick for the Suns to take him off our hands.

Baby is only signed through this year, Gallon is a longer term prospect. Unless you're confident that Gallon can be a fourth or fifth big for a contender you cannot trade BBD. Gallon has potential, but he's not ready for that yet.

Not only that but it appears he'll just be on our D-League roster. We won't own his rights as an asset unless we use up a roster slot on him. Thus we can't make any plans based on Tiny Gallon, even if you think he is going to be a player.

Baby is very important to the Celts and fills a need- a young big who plays with energy.  I don't want him to go anywhere.  With Perk out and Jermaine milking 25 simultaneous injuries, we need Baby.

Yeah, I don't see Gallon being a contributor to our rotation for, at minimum, two seasons.  His presence on the roster (or off the roster, under the watch of Austin Ainge) should have no affect on BBD's status.

Until Perk comes back and shows that he can contribute, I think BBD is necessary.  I'm not comfortable with any of our deep bench big men (Harangody, Erden, or potentially Lasme) filling in for him.

Things that we get for Big Baby:

- A treadmill with a chain to lock him to it.
- A personal chef who is allowed to tase Davis when he eats fast food.
- Ankle weights to increase his vertical
- A Rack device to stretch out his arms & legs

Ok ok, I'll take the post serious.  I'd stay put for now until we see how Perkins comes back and how Jermaine & Shaq keep up good health.  Ideally everyone will be healthy in January/February and we can trade Davis for someone better than Marquis.

BBD is our best bench player. Period. He is emerging as one of the best energy bench guys in the league.  He is not going anywhere.  Doc loves him, Danny too. Me three.

From a depth perspective, you need to hold on to BBD right now.  They need him.

Why do so many people want to get rid of BBD? sure he does nothing great, but he is the type of guy that when he is gone you really feel his missing presence.  He creates an energy that is very hard to replace for his position.

Davis is signed through this season.  My guess is if an extension can't be reached during the year he'll be traded.  He has already shown he wants top money (no takers) and I don't think loyalty is big on his list/attitude.  He has played great so far no doubt about it but I think he is also our best trade chip and for all the energy he does bring he is replacable.  If luke has minutes, can hit the outside shot better and rebound better than all he needs to do is learn the defense play it good and bring energy.  Of course Luke is a pf only with limits, Davis can also give you minutes at center.

Haha I love this last post...

"Why do so many people want to get rid of BBD? sure he does nothing great... Haha. I could think of 100 other guys in the NBA i would rather see get block 20% of the time then BBD... And until Davis learns that he doesnt need to shoot the ball or force a shot everytime he gets it, even if he learns how to do this and pass the ball. I still wont be a very big fan.

I seriously don't get this.. He isn't our best bench player at all. Sure, some people around here underrate him but a lot of people do the opposite, too.

He's an AVERAGE role player. Not much more, not much less.

Well with the influx of talent we got this off season i don't think he is our best bench player, but i think he was last year.

Well, Davis *can't* be signed to an extension during the season, per NBA collective bargaining rules.  So that will not be a factor in whether he's shopped or not.

What everyone seems to forget is that Baby is probably our most versatile big outside of KG.  He can defend the 4 and the 5.  He can shoot from outside or inside.  And he can provide energy plays or create his own shot.  He's extremely versatile and very important to this team.

And people want to get rid of that?  Do people realize that Shaq's a defensive liability, JO has no heart, is extremely injury-prone, and SOFT, and that Erden and Harangody are rookies?  We all love KG and Perk but they both have their own injury situations as well.  To me, those advocating the trade of Baby are just those who never liked him in the first place, something that makes their opinion dubious at best.  He's one of the few bigs we can actually count on this year.

The real conversation--that is, if we were talking about things that really matter--is whether we should consider starting Baby while Perk's on the mend.  His presence would make the starting unit very skilled (as Doc himself noted), very hard to guard and extremely versatile, and it would put Shaq and JO in the bench roles they're best suited for and will eventually settle into once Perk comes back.  And you know what?  Baby's the better player too.   Shaq is the better low post option, JO the better shot-blocker and rebounder, but the best all-around player out of those 3 is Glen Davis.

***

If we're talking about who to trade, the guy at the top of the list is Jermaine O'Neal.  He's DONE, has ZERO LIFT, and to top it off, he has no HEART.  He's the kind of guy who recently admitted that he hated playing against the Cs because he knew we'd be physical with him, something that basically announces to the world that if you're physical with Jermaine O'Neal he's going to back down and lose his aggressiveness and become ineffective.  We don't need that kind of player on this team.  He's a good guy to have for depth, but the minute you start counting on him is the minute you're going to be let down.  If and when Perk comes back to full strength, you can bet that JO will slide to the end of the bench and be no more than a 5 minute-a-night guy by the time the playoffs start.  Not what we wanted from our MLE, but that's what we got--a mentally weak loser past his prime.
Folly. Persist.
