For those who aren't familar with the "open practices", it's a practice session for season ticket holders before the season starts.  Guess who was sitting in the front row decked out in Phillies gear; none other than Mr. Rasheed Wallace.

There was lots of speculcation that he would join the team for the title stretch this year, and I really had my doubts about it.  But he is clearly maintaining a good relationship with the team, so I guess it's a possibility he may come back.

He took one shot before leaving, a corner three; clanked it off the side of the backboard LOL (he wasn't warmed up or anything).

Don't know what to make of this, but I'm not sure we have a "Need 4 Sheed" anymore with BBD, JO, and Shaq.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
My opinion is that THIS season makes more sense for him to be here...  Shaq and JONeal are old and broken down.  Rasheed could really help this team and at some point might be needed.

I think last season was mentally tough on him because he was asked to provide more than his body would allow him and it frustrated him.  But this season he could pick his spots.

I'd rather have sheed sitting on that bench than gallon...

Who knows which players will be healthy 5 months from now. It looks like Sheed is still attached to this team and enjoyed his time here. And we know that he still has a knack for hitting big shots in the playoffs. If someone goes down, I would love to see him arrive late in the year a la PJ Brown in '08. Even if we are healthy, you can't have enough big man depth and fouls to burn in the playoffs.

After Big Baby, who did the emcee gig, had introduced the current roster, the fans broke out into a "Sheeeeeed......Sheeeeeed"  chant asking Sheed to stand up and be noticed.

Doc, who had been sitting quietly, ran 3/4 of the court over to Sheed and tried to get him to stand for the crowd.  It sure seemed like Doc was saying yes also.

Given the team's age and potential for injuries, I'd keep Sheed on speed dial for the playoffs. Being able to add another front court player right before the postseason would be outstanding.

with Jermaine always plagued with injuries, sore hip/ wrist...and a injured hamstring...

i'm not sure if JO is ready for the season...yes we have 5 days off, but a sore hip is nothing to play with...sore hip/back can take 2 weeks or more to heal...

i mean he can play in the opener, but i seriously doubt he is 100%

I believe Shaq is 90%, i mean we just choose to rest him...as someone from another thread said "he just have an x amount of bullets left in him...use it wisely" of course the Celtics arent going to use Shaq much in the pre-season...

looking forward for the season to start!!

GO CELTICS

Sheed is definitely gonna be kicking himself when our team is on it's way to another title this year.  I would still take him with that 15th spot.  He's better than Erden and I'm sure either Shaq, JO, KG, or Big Baby is gonna be injured before Perk comes back.  If he happened to play okay it would free up Baby for a trade.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

The only thing that would be nice about having Sheed is that he'd be nice insurance, especially if Danny trades BBD for a wing later in the season.  Having him on the bench, ready to step in if someone else goes down in the playoffs would be quite the luxury.

I'm just not so sure he wants to come back to be the 5th or 6th big on a team that's only going to play 4 in games that matter.

It would not surprise me at all to see Sheed join this team down the stretch. With JO already missing almost every game with three to four different injuries, he would be great insurance.

Yepp. He's coming back for the post-season run. No doubt in my mind after this cameo. Add on Doc's slip about not having him for "the first half" of the season and it's looking more and more like a real possibility.

Come back Sheed, we need natural born champions here. I'd rather retire too than play another minute with Baby ever again. Cool, we'll just wait to cut that unnecessary growth off the roster to make room for you. Til then heal your back, get in shape, and study the refs.

PLEASE come back for the second half Sheed!

Put my vote down as definitely wanting him back. Even if everyone is healthy & Perk comes back 100%, I'd much rather have the problem of too many quality big men. With this group I believe they care more about a title than minutes. :)
