Perk came onto the team with baby fat and a hellaciously strong work ethic.  You could see that early on.  Count me skeptical when a kid's weakness is listed as "motor"; name me the last lackadaisical player who suddenly learned the meaning of hard work and intensity.

NBA Comparison: Glen Davis/Robert Traylor

Strengths: A wide bodied and extremely strong inside player … His bulk and strength allow him to muscle his way and clear space in the paint … Shows a promising (yet selective) repertoire of moves with his back to the basket; he feels out his defender and then turns and spins according to what is available … Incorporates an effective drop step, covering a lot of ground and physically dislodging his defender out of position … … Comfortable making counter moves in the post; he has good footwork and is able to turn and make secondary moves without losing his balance … Has the ability to turn to both shoulders and can finish with either hand around the basket … A soft touch inside helps him finish with a mix of mini hooks and turnaround jumpers … His midpost faceup game is his go to aspect at this point and it could become his bread and butter at the next level … He has nice range and has terrific confidence in his jumpshot … Facing up, he can put the ball on the deck and attack with a surprisingly advanced repertoire off the dribble, but most often he looks to get his shot off early … As a pick and pop option, he shows a lot of promise, because he can set strong and wide screens and then complete plays with his shooting ability … Rebounding the ball, he has a good feel for the ball, but more importantly his wide body allows him to clear space and hold boxouts …Weakness: His main strength is also a weakness, as his size and weight are major limiting factors … He is not a great athlete and does not get off the ground well … Settles for too many outside jumpers even though most of the time he has a distinct advantage by attacking inside … He struggles against taller and longer defenders because even though he can body them out of position, he still has a hard time finishing overtop of them … He undoubtedly carries too much weight and it shows in his footspeed and inability to get up and down the floor. Al Jefferson?

Meh, Big Al was a little out of shape at times, but I never thought of him as lazy.  Big Al also showed very early on that he didn't just have NBA talent, he had All-Star talent.

Watched a bit of Tiny Gallon in college.  His rebounding ability and jump-shooting are definitely NBA level.  No idea if he has the drive to become passable defensively (I think of him as more of a center than a power forward).

Add in character issues. Would not have been allowed to return to Oklahoma due to accepting money from an outsider, which has precipitated an NCAA investigation.

He played a role, along with Tommy Mason-Griffin, in the almost total destruction of my alma mater's basketball program.

That happens at basically every major program in football, basketball and probably baseball as well. I wouldn't really call it a character issue, per se, just a lack of judgement. He has to do what is in his best interest for himself and his family.

I am sure there are a lot of players who took money that we would be surprised by word just hasn't gotten out yet. Its definitely nothing to proud of (like his grades), but I wouldn't hold it against him.

Insurance in case we need to trade Baby for a wing?  Could he tough out 15 mpg behind Garnett during the regular season until Perk comes back?  (Answer: yes, because I could play backup power forward on this team and they'd still win 50+ games.)

Tiny is a little bit different from Archibald but looks like he could maybe be a power 3.

There is no chance Gallon will ever play the 3 in this league.  Heck, he's gonna struggle against a lot of the quicker 4s.

That said, good move by DA.  There aren't a lot of young bigs with post skill out there.  If you can get one for nothing, you gotta do it.

Interesting indeed. I'm not sure if this will lead to a trade.. I doubt it but it's something to think about nonetheless.

He's only 19 and has good size and skills. He needs to lose 30 or so pounds and prove he wants to be in the NBA but if that's all that's missing it's hard not to take a flier, especially for free. He has good atleticism for someone his size, too.

Now I'm just curious if we're going to keep him on the 15-man roster and just let him play with Maine most of the season or if we're going to waive him and then have him sign in Maine where we can get a close look.

I can't say I'm a fan of the second option.. We wouldn't hold any rights over him, obviously so unless there's a wink wink deal somewhere it might be best to keep him on the main roster if we really want to develop him.

From the clips the kid has great court vision good hands and decent touch but he looks like someone who's size has resulted in things being too easy for him so he is (said to be lazy). At 19 he can develop better habits. He is definitely talented

I really like the signing,

Gallon definetly is a project however the upside is there so its worth putting the time in.

He is 19
        6'8.5 with out shoes (same size as Big AL)
        302 lbs (with 15% BF, cousins was 292 with 16%)
        7'4 wingspan (similare to perk)
       
 He struggled in the summer league but put up good rebounding numbers(same per 40 and cousins).

I really like the idea of signing him then sending him to the D league, along with Bradely (also 19), and Lasme who said he is signing with maine if he doesnt make the celtics. Worst case he eats himself out of the picture. But the best case he gets down to 270s and develops into a zach randolph like power forward.
