Let's start with the easy part: because he sucks.

And because he's under contract in Russia.

We really need to revisit this topic for the 9 millionth time?

There is a reason that you havent read an article about Gerald and that he is playing in Russia. He isnt good enough to make an NBA squad... And it really isnt all that "sad". He had the tools to become a decent NBA player, but he wasted his talent. It is his own fault that he is playing overseas.

Gerald Green is not a basketball player.  He should try another sport.
He might be good at slamball.  Ever watch that?  There's a trampoline to help you with the stuffs.

Why don't the C's bring me in for a workout? Heck, why don't the C's bring in my grandmother for a workout? I mean, I KNOW there's only 15 roster spots on the team, why don't we fill them up with people who will contribute absolutely zero to a championship effort?

I know, I should chill out...after all, I should be used to seeing a "Bring back Gerald" topic on here at LEAST once a month...

And let us not forget that green is not a very intelligent player. He had a great deal of difficulty learning both offense and defense shemes.  His defense was terrible, and given his physical skills we can assume fairly that the problem may have been more mental.

Aside from dunks his basketball skills were limited. The celtics and other teams all decided green was not worth the bench space.

Actually, as I watched wafer make bad decision after bad decision in the game against Toronto tonight, he reminded me of green.  Make a great shoot. Then miss an offensise set. Follow that with madator defense.

May we please move on now?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if the Celtics brought in G. Green for a workout. I don't think it would hurt the team to bring someone back who already knows the system for a workout knowing that there is little to no chance that Gerald would get any playing time this season; the Celtics roster is already deep enough as is...

One of Gerald's problems is that he never learned Doc's system.  He never learned to play team (or individual) defense, how to box out, or how to run a fast break.

Gerald has the physical tools to play in the NBA, but he was never willing to put in the work to maximize that talent.  That reputation followed him to Minnesota, then Houston, and finally Dallas.  All agreed that he just didn't have the work ethic to succeed in the league.
He didn't even put in the proper work during the games.  He has the Patrick O'Bryant motor.  He would take multiple trips down the court off physically, and quite a few more mentally.

I don't hate the idea as much as some; however, with Perk taking up a roster spot and the fairly good chance that we have that some of our aging core will at least miss some games during the regular season, I don't think we have much room to carry projects at this point.

If we were going to go the way of retreads, I'd actually be more interested in Antoine Walker.  This isn't really out of sentimentality, though.  The fact of the matter is that he might be able to fill Baby's role on this team, thus allowing us to look into the possibility of dealing Baby and Nate/Delonte/Marquis (one of them) for a true 3.  And when Perk gets back, we could simply bump Toine to the M.L. Carr towel-waving job on the bench.

I'm gonna have to start taking names in preparation for some kicking.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Since Ainge straight stacked the roster again, we have enough people that are " in for workouts " right now.  Tough, tough decisions ahead on who to keep, and who to let go.  Even Von Wafer deserves a solid look.  Forget a guy like Green.

I can just picture the eastern conferance finals and we are playing the heat.  Halfway through the 3rd walker starts clanking 3's

Antoine is the ultimate love/hate relationship for me as far as celtics go.

That trade is all banking on gody being able to permanently replace BBD for the long run.

What's not to hate about this idea?  For every point Gerald scores, he gives up two on the defensive end.

I challenge you to name me a worse defensive player that's on the current roster.  I'll wait.

He's not in the NBA because he's got the least amount of basketball IQ I've ever seen.  He's absolutely clueless about how to play NBA basketball.

I'm amazed, sometimes, after watching a wonderful team for three years, a team that (usually) shares the ball, plays hard, plays great defense, plays together, and wins a lot of games...  I'm amazed that after watching THAT team for the past three years, people are still mesmerized by a dude that can dunk.  And that's it.

I never understood why people say Green has a lot of "athleticism." Sure, he can jump high, and he has a nice stroke from the outside, but the athleticism ends there.

Gerald Green has got to be one of the least fluid players (certainly by guard and small forward standards) I have seen. He has a terrible handle and even worse footwork.

yea... Gerald Green is a freakish athelete. I understand what your getting at but your confusing the definition of athleticism

Hmm...for this year only, would I rather have a suddently-coachable, non-chucker, role-player Toine for 1/3 the salary on a non-guaranteed deal, or BBD?

Tough call.

I would've rather kept Scals.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
