ESPN's Heat Index...are you freakin' kidding me?

Thought i had seen it all with the waaaaaay over the top coverage of the Miami Heat all summer by their largest shareholder (at least it would seem), until this...24-7 coverage of the Miami Heat.

I don't get why there is so much hatred for ESPN. When our big three got together in 2007, ESPN provided their fair share of coverage, so why complain now? ESPN appeals to the entire nation, so what is wrong with them providing extended coverage on the eyes of the NBA? Personally, I could care less about what is going on in the media. As long as my Celtics play well, play with hustle and everything that characterizes Celtics basketball, I am at peace. I'll worry about Miami when we meet them for a seven game series.

I remember 2007, and yes they got their share of coverage, but we're talking about non-stop from "The Decision" fiasco in prime time to following their every foot step. 2007 was nothing like this.

There are boundaries to everything, and this is getting excessive.

Plus, even with our newly-formed Big Three in Summer of 2007, the pundits were STILL picking LA to win it - without Bynum.

Fast-Foward to now? MIA will beat Boston, LA, ORL, Patriots, Redskins, Yankees, 90's Bulls, Bill Russell's Celtics......you name it .

Of course I'm trying to be funny here, but there must be another way to market MIA.

No one was picking LA to win it until they got Gasol for a ham sandwich in early '08.  In Summer '07 the Lakers were coming off a season where they were 42-40 and lost in the first round.  Pundits were picking the Spurs (defending champs) and Pistons if they weren't picking us.

I think the hate stems from the contradiction ESPN engages in on a daily basis.

It want's to be respected as a impartial journalism network but clearly structures it's coverage based on popularity as an entertainment network.  

This doesn't annoy me so much, but when they do things like not report the rothesburger incident for 6 days after every other network had it because ben does alot of stuff for the network, keeping the brett farve thing under wraps for similar reasons, ect.

Those annoy me. If it's a non-ESPN media friendly athlete/program they can't wait too lead the charge to a public lynching (duke lacross) but if the person allows a ton of access to ESPN they try to quash the story (Big Ben)

At the end of the day they are an entertainment network, but when they do stuff like this "Heat check" and then claim to be a journalistic network, it annoys people because of the double standard.

But to be fair they went on a huge run after than trade and demolished most of the teams in the playoffs.

We went 7 against the hawks, seven against the cavs, and didn't win a road playoff game until the last round.

If you told me team A was on a hot streak and rolled through the playoffs and Team B struggled against the 8th seed and went seven and six against the next two teams without a road win...I would probley pick team A in a vacuum too.

Try to look at this way the more they build the Heat stock up it could add fuel to other teams fire to whip their butts.
Last season it was the Cavs who got most of the love from ESPN...  how did that workout for them?

The Heat are by far the most interesting team in the league right now.  Nothing like this has really ever happened before in the NBA.  The atmosphere around the Heat right now is that they could be the second coming of the 72-win Bulls. 

It's not surprising that ESPN is covering them so extensively, even to the point of being ridiculous.

Well, if there is one benefit to all this, nobody is paying any attention to the Celtics. I find media attention to be quite a bother and a burden and attracts the trolling crowd. Just think back to the Patriot experience in 2007 for reference.

Sports Illustrated had the Bulls coming out of the East (losing to the Spurs I believe).
