JO and Perk will get along just fine... ;)

Yeah, right?

JO, Perk, and Ray - the balance to Shaq, Nate, Glen, Paul and KG.

Perk's out until Feb, but can anyone imagine the circus if JO and Ray wasn't the calming ones here?

Shaq is the guy to worry about. Come playoff time Shaq will NOT be playing if everyone is healthy. I would'nt be surprised if Erden surpasses him and Shaq becomes the 4th center. I really would be shocked if Shaq is not a problem.

Well, I'm not sure....in a potential matchup with ORL or LA, and the refs calling the game tight - we'll definitely see Shaq in there.

ORL (DH, Gortat, Bass) and LA(Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Theo) have length and muscle up front - which Shaq will help us to negate.

Shaq's minutes may fluctuate, but the Big Shamrock isn't going away completely.

On a related note, I didn't like his body language at all the first two possessions he was on the court. He seemed to be slugging along up and down, and appeared somewhat disinterested.

Not to jump to any conclusions, but I'd have loved to see him a little more invested in his first appearance in a Celtics uniform.
Serious?  I have to check it out on dvr when I get out of work.  That's not cool if it's true.  I really don't want any more reason not to like the guy.

Well, that's how he looked to me. He got an iso on the first or second possession, turned it over badly, then kind of trotted up and down the court... Of course, I may be making mountains out of mole hills, and he didn't play even nearly enough to draw any sort of general conclusions.

KG doesn't even sit on the bench when he's injured.  He stays home.

Kudos for showing up to J.O..  Feigning interest is optional!

I thought KG always traveled with the team, but didn't sit on the bench, instead opting to stay in the locker room (except for the playoffs in '09). I've heard that several times, lastly when he was suspended for game 2 against Miami and watched the game with Ainge at DA's house, they said that was the first time he wasn't with the team.

What I am concerned about is that JO looks real doughy. In his indiana days he was ripped. Now he looks like he is carrying alot of extra weight. I was expecting him to show up in great shape. maybe he didnt do alot of conditioning because he was rehabbing his injuries. If he is healthy he will now need to get in shape because he will just end up hurt again. Luckily we do not need to rely on him for big minutes. He is a luxury as a 20 mpg center, but something tells me he still has greatness in him.

First off, J.O. has always had a different taste in clothes than most.  Don't forget he was another high school-er to the NBA. Remember when he went back to his high school prom??

A fair number of these guys play themselves back into shape.   He covered over 6 feet to get one those blocks last night.  Impressive.  :)

I think we will be relying on him, especially the first half of the season without Perk. If he plays 20 mpg, that would mean 25+ for Shaq (assuming KG or BBD play a minute or two at C in a small lineup). I don't think Shaq can play 25-28 minutes a night, especially on back-to-backs.

As good as some of you think Erden has looked (I only saw the first half of the Nets game, didn't see much of him that was noteworthy), I doubt he gets minutes unless someone sits or severe foul trouble.

I've seen guys do good in preseason games and summer league (which Erden looked terrible in) and are no-shows when the real games begin.

So I hope JO gets healthy and in shape (although he has filled in a bit over the last few seasons, this is nothing new) because we gave him the full MLE for a reason.

Everything that has been posted by the media, as well as been quoted directly by JON has reported nothing but happiness about his situation in Boston.  Certainly, the proof will be determined during the season, but neither JON or Shaq are worried about their minutes.  They all appear to be shooting for the same goal.  As far as JON isolating himself from the rest of the team, I agree that there is probably a bit of misinterpretation there.  After all, didn't the group just return from playing softball together at Fenway--and JON was ranked 2nd behind Rondo as MVP of the game.  There must be some chemistry developing among the players and JON for this to have occurred.

I don't see minutes being  an issue anymore. It is pretty clear that the O'Neals are a bit worn out. Shaq has bad hips and will need to limit his minutes. JO always has nagging injuries. Perk will be recovering from injury.

We want our big running the court the entire time they are out there. The only way Shaq can run all game is by limiting his minutes. JO and Shaq have the chance to have ridiculous per minute stats since they will be able to give everything while they are out there in their reduced minutes.

Man JO looked good on defense. Those were some impressive blocks. It will be hard to get to the rim with JO and a healthy KG guarding it.

Very well said TP I agree fully.
