No one said they have a 3% chance.

3% of GMs picked the Celtics to win it all. That is very different.

There is no need for semantics. That is still insane when no one knows what chemistry or depth problems the Heat could have.

Somewhat uninteresting topic, but I wouldn't describe it like that. It's one vote per person. If your feeling was Lakers 40%, Heat 30%, Celts 25%, other 5%, your vote would be for the Lakers, it looks like Lakers 100% others 0% in the totals.

You might want to reevaluate your definition of semantics.

Celtics are 12-1 with the bookies. Therefore it is an 8-9% chance.

Heat are 2-1
Lakers 3-1

Last year, we probably had (according to the "experts") roughly a 1.2 % (just throw a number out there) chance of reaching the Finals.

We all know how that went  ;)

To be precise, it's 7.7%, as compared to 33% for the Heat and 25% for the Lakers.

As usual he GM's are probably mistaken in saying that the Celtics will be the underdogs again. You know, sometimes I go and look at the old topic here from the ESPN playoff predictor from last season and scoff in disgust at the results from some of the responses.

I mean I know that the Lakers are probably favored to 3-peat, followed by the Heat because of the Kobe-Phil combo but still; Kobe Bryant is no Michael Jordan. Even if Kobe won 7 rings he still wouldn't come close to being as revolutionary as Jordan was to the game of basketball, seeing as Michael Jordan invented a lot of the moves that sg's today are using.

I found it amusing that the Lakers lost last night by only four points, while Kobe Bryant shot an abysmal 2 of 15 from the field. If Kobe had made just 3 more of the 15 shots that he took that game the Lakers would have beaten Barcelona's basketball team, though given it was only a pre-season game.

Michael Jordan, on the other hand has had plenty of games where he scored in the 30's and shot up to 75% from the field while doing so, I've seen a clip on youtube where Jordan scores 28 consecutive points without missing a basket (vs the Lakers), one point higher than Kobe Bryant's ppg last regular season, lol.

Yessir!

This is probably right where they had us ranked back in 07-08, huh? And we all know what happened then. Stuff like this:

Well, the C's are old.  So that is a strike against them.  An injury to Paul, KG, or even Ray could derail the whole season.  That said, the Lakers aren't that young either.  Kobe's less than a year younger than Paul, Fisher is older than Ray, and Artest and Odom are getting long in the tooth.  Furthermore, just because LeBron and Wade aren't old doesn't mean they can't rupture an ACL (see Amar'e Stoudemire and Antonio McDyess).  And I bet if someone really did a big statistical study, the C's only have a modestly higher chance of getting hurt than any other team.

And I think the media is underestimating the impact that some of our new acquisitions and bench players can make.  Shaq may have been too old to be Robin to LeBron's Batman; however, that doesn't mean he's too old to be the fifth option in our offense.  Similarly, Jermaine O'Neal may have disappointed as the #2 guy in Miami; however, he'll make a hell of a backup center.  And Nate Robinson and Delonte West may not have what it takes to start in this league, but both are extremely talented options who are only going to be expected to play (at most) 15-20 mpg.
