SO if "Doc"  does not return following this season and Don Nelson is available would he be on a short list of possibilities? My biggest concern with him would be.....
1. He loves to run and our guys are looking a little old to be running! Yes Rondo would flourish here but KG and Shaq would not!
2. His team stink at defense

So do you guys think he would be on the short list of coaches?
I think he would be along with Mchale.

I think Lawrence Frank will be the next Celtics coach.  I think Nelson has been pretty bad of late.  I think he's done.

I'd probably rather see Tommy coach the team than Don Nelson.

Ast do not typically get the head coach job after their head coach leaves. I didn't say I wanted him as a coach!! I am just wondering if he will be considered if available?

Nah, Nellie is done. He won't return to the bench.  Not in the NBA.

I could see him accepting a front office position if the money was right though. Not here in Boston. He is too power hungry to play nice under Ainge.

One interesting tidbit that I read seems to point to Frank. Not sure where I read it, but I think it was today. The article said that Clifford Ray wasn't retained and he was replaced with *one of Frank's disciples* Roy Rogers (or something similar). Doesn't mean a lot, but it's interesting in light of Doc's uncertain future.

No.  But how about special assistant free throw instructor, paid by incentive -- $1 million for each 5% improvement on Rondo's FT shooting.

Don was money at the line using a 'push' shot that Rondo could emulate.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Frank is pretty clearly the coach-in-waiting as others have said.  If somebody Danny likes better comes along, then plans might change.  But Don Nelson is definitely not that guy.

The 20 second timeout would be completely useless...

Nelly is from the Doug Moe/Mike D'Antoni school of coaching: try to score as many points as possible and don't worry about playing defense.

There's a reason that Nelly has never won a title as a coach.  He's been very innovative as a coach; but he somehow hasn't caught on that no matter how innovative he is offensively, if you can't stop the other team it doesn't matter.
