I mean Dirk Nowitzki is a great player, but LeBron James has not gone 2 consecutive years without at least making the Conference Finals since 2004-2005. Dirk hasn't made it past the second round in 4 years, and didn't make it past the 1st round in 3 of those 4 years.

In fairness, there's a pretty big difference between the East and the West, isn't there?  Also, for whatever its worth, Dirk actually won a game in the Finals, something Lebron has yet to do.

Thanks for chipping in, Roy. Don't you have some kinda witness exsanguination or something to do? :)

Defense: LeBron played against the San Antonio Spurs...the team that invented Defense Wins! before Ubuntu even poked its head from Doc River's thought-womb. LeBron did this at age 22 with Boobie Gibson as his second best player.

Dirk did it with a peaking Josh Howard (before he got dumb and injured), a still-mobile Eric Dampier, a still-consistent Jerry Stackhouse, and a budding star in Devin Harris.

And DeSagana Diop is in there somewhere too.

OKay, I gotta go to the gym, then cook dinner. If you have any further questions before 9 or so (when I'll get back), refer to this post:

http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=41728.msg846197#msg846197

And read this:

Dirk hasn't made it past the second round in 4 years, and didn't make it past the 1st round in 3 of those 4 years. Jason Kidd didn't make a difference. Neither did Jason Terry (better than anyone on your bench), Brendan Haywood (better than Gortat), Shawn Marion (better than Rip Hamilton or Corey Maggette), or Caron Butler (better than Rip Hamilton and Corey Maggette).

And you're postulating that Dirk can break my defense and stop my offense? You're saying that Dirk can send LeBron home because of a broken Rip Hamilton, plus Corey Maggette and Marcin Gortat? No way.

Has lebron ever beat a more talented team than the Milwaukee Bucks?

I dont think so.  He single handedly beat the pistons with one of the greatest post season performances i have ever seen.  Ill give him that.  but in the past three years he has failed to reach the finals.  Why will these Bulls fair any better?
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

The Pistons team that Lebron singlehandedly beat in an ECF was better than the squad you have. Tougher defenders, great team dynamic, and a younger, more effective backcourt. I think that's an awful argument for you to use.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I said more talented not better defensively.  Dirk is the most talented player by far of both teams.

That is ridiculous. Between 2002-2003 and 2007-2008 the Detroit Pistons never missed a conference Finals, winning 1 championship, and losing the other to Spurs in 7 games. They lost to, in order the 2002-2003 NJN behind an MVP caliber performance from Jason Kidd, and before they'd added Rasheed Wallace to the mix, the 2005-2006 Miami Heat behind dominating performances from Shaq and Wade, LeBron's virtuoso performance in 06-07, then the Celtics blessed (pronounced 'bless-ED', because it was a religious experience)

I don't see how your team of a 37 year old Kidd, a broken Rip Hamilton, a slowing down Dirk Nowitzki, a lifetime loser in Maggette and a sub 15 minute per game center in Gortat competes with the 06 Heat, that already proved they could beat Dirk, the 07 Cavs, or the 08 Celtics. You can't play defense down low, how are you going to beat LeBron?

PS: I'd like to clarify on Gortat, I think he could start in the league...I don't think he'd be a good starter, but he's starting caliber, in theory. He's just been cursed by Dwight Howard.

My picks ...

Eastern Conference
  • Chicago over Milwaukee -- Too much LeBron, not enough defense
Western Conference
  • Phoenix over Sacramento -- Too much Dwight, not enough defense

My picks:

Western Conference -- Kings

Non-Eastern Conference -- Sacramento

;)

I'll be curious to see if Sacramento and Milwaukee can get more than 25% of the vote.  The way voters are drawn to superstars -- even superstars with no track record of success -- I'm guessing not.

A broken down rip that is more effective offensively than your second offensive option.

dons you should vote for Milwaukee because we are offensively balanced, experienced in the playoffs.  And our second offensive option didnt shoot 37% for the season last year.

Chicago is a good team dont get me wrong, but they dont have the offensive weapons to win more than 2 games in the series.  I really dont think this one is close to be honest.
