Some Notable Maggette Stats

7.9 fta/g. Fourth among all SFs in free throw attempts per game, trailing only Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

51.6% fg%. Only Nicolas Batum (51.9%) shot better from the field in 09/10 among small forwards.

66.2% at rim. Maggette's driving ability meant a significant chunk of his shots came at the rim, where he finished at a good clip,12th among all small forwards.

27 charges taken. Maggette knows how to draw charges, ranking fourth among small forwards in charges taken.

20.40 PER. Fourth among all small forwards in PER, ahead of such notable names as Danny Granger, Paul Pierce, and Gerald Wallace.

61.5% true shooting. Getting tons of free throws and shooting a high percentage from the field translated into the second-best true shooting percentage among all small forwards.

What team built around using Maggette as the go to guy has won in the playoffs?  Or made the playoffs?

He has made a career as being a stat hanger on bad teams.  How are we suppose to believe he is going to be equal to Lebron in a playoff series?

And why are you not forcing more action through your best player in this?

He isnt my number one guy so im not sure why that is even an issue.  I just think he doesnt get the credit he deserves on this board.  Course the last time he was on a team with a legit MVP candidate they made it a game away from the WCF
Agreed

Credit for what?  Being a role player?  He is a role player that can score double digits but as a key player, is a stat hanger on bad teams.
As a third or fourth best player on a good team, Maggette could be a very valuable asset.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Or better than having Brandon Jennings right.  and when you shoot 51% from the field how is that flipping a 40% coin?

We talked about this. Posting statistics.

Half of LeBron vs Maggette's games happened between 03-05 when LeBron was 19 and 20 years old, while Maggette was 25, so I'm throwing those out, and I imagine everyone else would too.

Using only the last 6 games, or those from 2006-2007 through 2009-2010, we have the following per 40 minute numbers:

LeBron: FG%=50%, FGA's=21 FTA's=10, Rebounds=7 Assists=9 Blocks=2, Steals=3, TO's=3 Points=30
Maggette: FG%=43, FGAs=16, FTA's=10, Rebounds=8.5, Assist= 2, Blocks=0, Steals=2.5, TO's=3 Points=24

Over the last 6 games, LeBron averages 6 more points, 6 more assists, 2x the number of steals, 2x number of blocks, same amount of TO's (but LeBron had a 3:1 AST:TO ratio, compared to Maggette's 1:1.

Listen the fact of the matter is, Dirk and lebron are going to get their points.
True.

the remainder comes up to who do you trust more, Rip and Corey Maggette or Brandon Jennings?

False.

To Phoenix

How can you expect us to buy that a rookie that has never played a game in the NBA is suddenly an elite stopper?

To Sac

How do you plan to defend the pick and roll with Howard?  I don't see your big men being able to get up high enough to stop him if he is getting good passes.

Sorry, missed this question.

Who are you referring to when you say rookie being an elite stopper?

Could be.  But in his 11 year career, has never proven to be.

That's what makes the argument of him being near equal to Lebron in meaningful stats hard to swallow.

True, but only great team defenses have beaten Lebron.

And is anyone else finding it funny that Milwaukee's best defender is Jason Kidd? And he is guarding Mike Miller in Rondo###'s matchups? Come on.

Anybody else find it funny that IP's second best option shot 37% from the field last year and doesnt have a college education.  And his best player quit on his team in a playoff series this past year?  Comon

Marcin Gortat is Milwaukee's best defender.

Rip Hamilton is Milwaukee's second best defender.

Jason Kidd is their third best defender.

Ronny Turiaf is their fourth best defender. The rest of the rotation are in the below average range (to varying degrees).

How many players in the NBA have an actual college education?  Showing up for one semester does not make for an education.

Rondo,

Did Brandon Jennings have a negative impact on the Bucks last season?

Rondo,

Did Brandon Jennings have a negative impact on the Bucks last season?

No he had a good impact but faded the second half of the season.  He was a rookie of the year candidate for the first half and lost it in the second half because his body is not NBA ready.

I would also add that I believe the arrival of John Salmons had a bigger impact on the team than Jennings last year

Well balanced teams more often than not beat teams with one superstar and not much else

Joakim Noah, Brandon Jennings, and Mike Miller are better than "not much else".

For one Noah is a better rebounder and defender than anyone on your entire team.

Mike Miller is a better 3pt shooter than anyone on your team, as well as a better rebounder than anyone in your back-court including Jason Kidd.

Brandon Jennings as the second scoring option got Milwaukee into the playoffs. As the primary scoring option brought Atlanta to a 7 game playoff. How did Richard Hamilton do in this playoffs this season? How did Corey Maggette do?

That's right, they were both featured on teams that finished in the lottery.

Keep underrating Brandon Jennings. Richard Hamilton is broken. Dirk and Kidd are both getting older, and Kidd will be 37 years old next season.

Brandon Jennings should only improve.

True, but only great team defenses have beaten Lebron.

Well to be fair my second best player is Joakim Noah, who is a better defender and rebounder than anyone on your team (have I mentioned that?).

And if we're talking about LeBron James quitting, why can't we also talk about guys who can't get the job done.

Meet: Dirk Nowitzki.

2010: Bounced in the first round by the spurs, 6 games
2009: Bounced in the second round by Denver, 5 games
2008: Bounced first round, by New Orleans, 5 games (New Orleans was one of those teams with one superstar)
2007: Bounces in the first round, despite being a #1 overall seed, despite coming off of a finals appearance, despite Dirk being the MVP, bounced in teh first round by the Golden State Warriors in 6 games.
2006: Lost in Finals to Heat amid accusations that Nowitzki could not lead, and was 'emasculated' by Dywane and the refs.

I would rather have a guy that goes all out and falls short than a guy that gives up.  Dirk has never been accused of giving up in my memory anyways.

I mean Dirk Nowitzki is a great player, but LeBron James has not gone 2 consecutive years without at least making the Conference Finals since 2004-2005. Dirk hasn't made it past the second round in 4 years, and didn't make it past the 1st round in 3 of those 4 years. Jason Kidd didn't make a difference. Neither did Jason Terry (better than anyone on your bench), Brendan Haywood (better than Gortat), Shawn Marion (better than Rip Hamilton or Corey Maggette), or Caron Butler (better than Rip Hamilton and Corey Maggette).

And you're postulating that Dirk can break my defense and stop my offense? You're saying that Dirk can send LeBron home because of a broken Rip Hamilton, plus Corey Maggette and Marcin Gortat? No way.
