Perk is gonna be on the injury list for nearly the entire regular season, and I don't expect the O'neals to be healthy throughout the season. Semih Erden is a younger Patrick O'Bryant in my opinion, so he shouldn't be included in the twelve man roster. Dampier will be a great backup center.  Ainge you should chase Dampier!

He already had an offer from the Houston Rockets for two years and $4 million, according to a Houston Chronicle source. Chicago, Denver and Miami are in...of course Miami is in the mix. Dampier 35, apparently indicated he wants to go to the Miami Heat, but the Heat can only offer a veteran's minimum deal of $1.4 million this season.

why would he come here to play for the vet min in the role you just described?

You think he would be 3rd on the depth chart at C? And 4th when Perk comes back?

I would have liked to sign him- more than JO, actually.  But I think we have signed our quota of 7 footers already.  Dampier won't have the same playing time opportunity here as he would elsewhere.

Don't need him! We have our big rotation and don't forget Rasheed will be back for the playoff run! I just hope he goes to the Rockets and not the Heat.

Don't need an aging stiff.

Dampier isn't a stiff or a bum.  He's an older (much older), better rebounding version of Perk.  He could help any contender right now, which is why so many teams are after him.

However, we just don't have a lot to offer him.  He'd be 3rd or 4th on our depth chart, and we've only got the minimum.  He'll either go to Houston for more money, or go to Miami for a bigger role.

Don't believe we need him. With Shaq and J.O, we have centers who are offensive threats, as well as solid defensively.

I think we are set for battle in 2010-11!

And even if Damp chooses MIA, it helps them, but he's not enough to keep us or ORL from beating them.

How big of a role do you think he wants and/or can handle at 35?  They couldn't stand him in Dallas and were thrilled after the trade with the Wiz last year and got a real C.

The reason that Dallas fans (and probably management) couldn't stand him is because the team stupidly was paying him $13 million.  Dampier obviously isn't a $13 million player, and he never was.  He's a center who defends and rebounds, and scores garbage buckets on offense.  He's certainly a "real C", although Brendan Haywood is of course younger and better.

I mean, I don't think "he's not as good as Brendan Haywood" or "he's not worth $13 million" is a viable reason not to have interest in a guy.  Some of the best GMs in the league, including Daryl Morey, are after this guy, so I'm confident that he can still play.

In terms of the role I think he could handle, I see him as a 20 to 25 minute per night center.

I think Miami will beat Orlando.  If Miami adds Dampier, I think it becomes almost a definite, but even without him, the Heat can disrupt the players around Howard enough to beat them, even if Howard goes for 35 per night.

Yeah, I just don't get this.  Why would Dampier want to come here when we can't offer him minutes or money?  It just doesn't make sense.

Would love to have Dampier but it just wouldnt make sense for us to pick him up right now. This would create a huge logjam in the front court. We need to use the roster spot on a back up three.
