He's a playoff tested winner, loves the game, and has a short term contract aligned to expire with the rest of our savvy vets. Also, Denver is prepping to blow it up with Melo wanting out! So now is the time.

I know there's a lot of Rondo love on these boards, but his "hit or miss" performances and inconsistencies have really stagnated our offense in the playoffs (Not to mention he shot 26% from the line in the Finals). The problem is too, I think "he is what he is" and has peaked. I say we trade high now, grab Billups and Ty Lawson, win back to back titles and evaluate rebuilding in 2012 with Pierce, a boat load of cap space and some nice young mid level prospects with playoff experience on the roster.

Rondo is not a winning future and I would love to see Danny move in this direction:

Rajon Rondo and Nate Robinson

for

Chauncey Billups and Ty Lawson

Nothing against Billups but I think Rondo is great for this team too, and I certainly don't think he has peaked yet.  I think we'd have at least an equal chance to win this year with Rondo, probably better.  And in the future, I'd certainly predict Rondo to have a better career than Lawson.

Plus, Denver is checking to see what they could get for Anthony.  They have no reason at this point to throw out the white flag and blow the whole thing up.

Billups is a guy I like and resect, but I'd rather have Rondo.  He's a far worse shooter, but he's a much better defender, penetrator, passer, rebounder, thief, and just about everything else other than shooting.

Respect to Billups, but no way I'd trade a top young PG to get a top old PG.  It just doesn't make sense.  They each have strenths and weaknesses, and are nearly opposite in some respects, but I anticipate being saddened enough watching the old timers we already have become decrepit and get circles run around them on some nights during the season, no sense in making that worse by trading our best young all-star caliber player just entering his prime.

Actually, the more I think about it, this is a pretty ridiculous idea...

Congrats... You just won the award for worst idea ever...

Rondo is what, 23 years old? and already has a championship under his belt...How could you say he's not the future?

Billups is a great point guard but he is getting old... Why trade ten years of great Point Guard play with a better chance of winning this year for two, at most, decent years of Point Guard play and a worse chance of winning the title this year?

Posts like these are why fans should never be allowed to run teams. No offense, but this is just ridiculous. I must have only imagined we won a title two years ago with Rondo at PG. But I guess Rondo is not a winner according to Jsaad. Those triple doubles in the playoffs the past few years were all a mirage.  ::)

Outside of you personally hating our best player, I can't think for the life of me why you would suggest such a stupid idea. Again, no offense.

What's also hilarious is that you are saying Rondo has peaked at 24. Billups didn't become a good player until his sixth year in the league at 26. Two years older than Rondo. Rondo does everything better than Billups than shoot. And Rondo can improve that. We have 5 prime years of Rondo at a GREAT contract. Teams would have thrown the MAX at him this year! You want to get rid of that for two years of an old and lesser player? An old player who has no trade value? Think man!

Trading 24 year old superstar PGs for 34 year old star PGs is suicide.

Chauncey started his rookie season as a Celtic, but unfortunately at this point in his career it would probably take too much money to move him here. We would have to trade either Rondo and Nate (or both) and then afterwords we wouldn't have a back-up point guard.

I'm all in favor of keeping Rajon Rondo as a Celtic, mainly because I kinda miss being Rondo on Celticsblog now that my post count is too high. 300 posts as Rajon Rondo on Ceticsblog can be exhausting sometimes, to say the least  ;)

Last thing we need is another player that was born in the "disco era" (70's)!
L.A. Clippers
Derrick Rose Blake Griffin 4.11 5.3 5.15 6.11 7.15 8.11 9.15 10.11 11.15 12.11 13.15

About the type of responses I expected and that's fine. I've been trashed on here before for "stupid" predictions and been the one laughing in the end. Rondo's shot won't get much better, he doesn't have the hand eye or concentration. He is what he is. I'll bump this after the 2011 season and we'll see his numbers similar to that of 2010, book it.

An objective basketball eye (not looking at age) will admit that Billups is a better PG than Rondo and it's not just his shot. He's an equal floor general, off the dribble but can post up other guards and is a better defender... Yes, he's a better defender. Don't tell me about his STL's, things like team defense, proper switches and amount of times burnt by gambling aren't measured in statistics. Billups is also a far more consistent player.

Obviously I'm not huge on Rondo.

I have been saying for two years that I would like Chauncy Billips as a BACK UP for Rondo, when his starting days are done.  At this point in his career he should not be a replacement for Rondo.  We must develope our young talent, not trade it away, and Rondo is already an excellent point guard. I just wish he could gain confidence in his jumper and raise his free throw percentage.

Billups isn't nearly the defender Rondo is.  Yes, he is a very smart player, but he can't pressure fullcourt and more importantly, he can't stay with the quick point guards like Parker, Jennings and Rondo.

Billups might help the Celtics more than Rondo against the Lakers but I think he makes the team worse against just almost everyone else.

The Celtics best chance at getting back to the Finals is with Rondo.

As Celtics fans it's all we should be thinking about anyway, but when I say Billups is better than Rondo I'm referring to playoff basketball when the game is slowed down and more half court involved.

I Like Billups, but I think Rondo is the perfect fit for this team, his youth and speed and defense and passing first fit much better then another older, slow player who often looks to shoot first.
the big 3 have all averaged around 12 shots a game for the last 3 seasons, how do you get better distrubtion then that?
Of the 3 years with the big 3, healthy they've made the finals 2 out of the 3 years and rondo was arguably the main reason they made the finals last season as a 4th seed

I'd rather have Billups when the Celtics play the Lakers, but I'd rather have Rondo for when they play just about every other team in the league.
