From a Lakers fan, Boston fans are more intelligent/passionate than Lakers fans

The only statistic that I really care about in sports is in jeopardy -- the only time it's ever been in jeopardy (or at least since Russell donned green).  17 vs. 16.   Back pre-Bird when it was 13-6 I thought the C's championship record was untouchable -- I never dreamed that the nightmare could come true.  But LA has continued to produce champions in every era, and the C's were asleep at the wheel for a couple of basketball generations.  

While the LA weather is a plus in many ways for free agents (I'd love to be warm all year), I suppose the Clippers prove that it takes more than warm weather to build a champion.  I have begrudging respect for the Laker franchise; and at the same time I could not feel more irrational abhorance toward anything as I do toward the Lakers.   I am ready to put heart and soul into a championship run for the C's this year -- fearing, of course, that the Lakers current window is still pretty wide open.

We have fewer stupid / bandwagoner fans because there are much bigger sports in our town.

In LA, the Lakers are THE major sports team.  You don't have a NFL team, and you have a couple of okay at best MLB teams.  So anybody who's into sports really at all in LA is a fan of a team from somewhere else, or a fan of the Lakers.

In Boston, most of our more fairweather / immature fans flock to the most popular teams - the Red Sox and the Pats.  Celtics fans are generally more intelligent and loyal because as a group we tend to be more into basketball than the average Lakers fan.  

We also don't have a Kobe type figure around here; I get the sense that many Lakers fans are really just Kobe fans, who pretty much believe he's the basketball Jesus even when he goes 6-24 and gets outplayed over the course of the NBA Finals by his scruffy Spanish co-star.  As soon as Kobe retires, they'll lose interest until LA gets their next superstar through some kind of lop-sided trade, draft heist, or free agency.

That's my theory, anyway.

You know what would be weird?  If a Celtics fan in disguise pretended to be an internet Lakers fan to bash their fan base, while boosting ours.  It would make for an interesting thread, anyway.

Or maybe we can go with the opinion stated in the topic of the thread that respectfully states how inferior Lakers fans are to Celtics fans in all walks of life. I mean, there's no need for me to post footage of Lakers fans rioting, vandalizing their own city and looting businesses again as if they were victims of hurricane Katrina on Celticsblog anymore.

Maybe it's the fact that L.A.'s time-zone is 3 hours behind; Lakers fans just seem like they are a little lacking in the maturity/intelectual area sometimes

Well, I am a fanatic Celtic fan who has lived in LA for 25 years. I have alot of friends here who are Die Hard Lakers fans. I can not stand them when it comes to this. Here's why:

1. They never call it like it is, there si always some excuse

2. Kobe cna do no wrong. He's never elbowed anyone when he shoots his shot...He's the greatest player in history ( ever heard of Michael Jordan, Bird and Magic? Who, by the way, Kobe can't hold a candle to in terms of class, character and leadership ...) The guy could be walkign aroudn shooting people on the street and it would be alright...nauseating.

3. The Lakers have never lost...they've either gotten screwed or were missing players. For example, in '08, the Laker fans out here are still crying about not having Bynum and Ariza. There was no way anyone was beating that '08 Celtics team, with or without Bynum ( he as a major stiff back then. Since then he's gotten better to where it would matter if he's on the court or not.... Admit the loss.

4. Speaking of Bynum - and just for the record for all lakers fans - he IS NOT Wilt Chamberlain. Just want to clear that up.


5. The Celtics lose a game to you, I've got 20 texts on my cell completely bashing the Celtics and saying how much they suck within 10 minutes of the game ending. WE beat you guys, it's like people died, I can't even get a return text. And I'm not even rubbing it in like you guys do. Just want to talk basketball.

Total fairweather fans who won't shut up when you win - and cant' be heard from, curled up in afetal position when you lose...

Just have some sack and show up, win or lose, like a man. And just call it like it is.

Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Cooper, Fisher, Rambis, these are classic NBA players, great players.

Kobe and Gasol are working on their legacies. But Kobe is worthless as aa person so I find it hard to respect his game. Gasol on the other hand is a class act, even if he looks a like a complete whiny ****.

Oh yeah, and you guys have 11 titles, not 16. That would be like us saying where bringing the titles with us from when we played in Rocherster or something. You've got 11.

By the way, nice work coming on the Celtics Blog to post and calling ti like it is. Shows you call it like it is and that's all that matters. We can hang with that.

Nice win in 2010. I thought we should have had that, even without Perkins. But I also thought you guys really earned that title and we really earned that loss with our play in the second half. You guys "took" that title, it was nicely done.

Best possible scenario for this year is Lakers / Celtics again. Maimi / Lakers won't hold a candle to another Celtics Lakers final.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree on a few of your points...

1. There are also excuses on the Celtics side. If you want to complain about the officiating, just know it goes both ways. The ball going off of Garnett's hand and still going to the Celtics...That game could have gone to the Lakers. From how that game went, probably not, but anything's a possibility. You'll probably pick a bunch of calls that went against you, so we can agree that officiating was bad on both sides.

2. Kobe can do wrong, but he's a spectacular player. Throughout his career, he has had so many clutch performances that it's almost hard to believe. Yes, there are Kobe homers who feel he can do no wrong, but same goes with Wade, Lebron, etc. I feel he is in the conversation with Bird and Magic (not saying he's better). He's not in the conversation with Jordan, unless he ends his career spectacularly.

3. Bynum definitely was an excuse in 08...You guys still probably would have won that year. You guys complain the same way about Perkins, and, don't even make me bring up Doc's "Our starting 5 has never lost" bull Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline..

4. Bynum isn't Wilt Chamberlain, but he's a top-tier center in this league when healthy (and I know you guys experienced this in the regular season and playoffs).

5. Lakers fan were humiliated in 2008. That's why they troll redsarmy in such large numbers and blow up your cell phone like you talk about. Hate to admit it, but they were so humiliated in 2008, that they would use anything to try and shove it in your faces. The trolling is something that I despise, and has to stop.

Gasol is great. I didn't care for him much when he came to the Lakers, but he grew on me. Very classy and humble - Most consistent player I've seen in a while. Kobe is who he is. You might not love his personality when he is on the opposing team, but you would [dang] sure love it if he was on your team...which is my opinion on Lebron. Can't imagine ever wanting Kobe on my team, since he's not a team player. As a Celtic fan currently in Northern California I can't wear my #34 t-shirt without a Lakers fan saying something stupid to me -- even a mom at my kid's school. Paul Pierce was a Lakers fan, proof that a Laker fan can end up being the 2nd coming. It's just that the vast majority of them are clods, misunderstanding the point of competition: to make each other better. While the Lakers might make the C's a better team, the Lakers fans don't make Celtics fans better, they just make us look better.

LakerFan_33 - about your point #3 - don't you think that Doc was using that comment as a motivator for our team? When that comment of his went down a couple of weeks ago, it was certainly discussed in detail around here, with varying opinions on it.

I know it made Laker fans upset. It made some Celtics Fans upset, too. Me? I think Doc canned it perfectly, and the entire context of his comments were spot on. He even gave LA credit for the title - that was the first sentence out of his mouth.

The remaining comment? Sure - he had Green tint to it. But look at Phil Jackson - he is the Master Motivator, the "Zen Master." He has said stuff throughout his career that has motivated his Laker and Chicago Bulls teams, and riled up opponents and fan bases, like his comments towards Steve Nash last season, I believe.

But no one takes Phil to task for it, huh? But you'd think that Doc ate a baby or something with his comments?

On one hand, it could be said that Doc has no right to make those comments - he has not been as successful as Phil, and that could be a correct statement. But Doc over the last 3 seasons has put together a resume that I would say is nearly as impressive as Popovich, Phil or anyone else:

1 Title and a 66-16 season in 07-08.

A 62-20 season in 08-09, and and took ORL to 7 games in the conference semis without KG or Powe.

A 50-32 last season, with myriad injuries to seemingly over half of our roster. Defeated MIA in 5 games, upset CLE and ORL in 6 games, and nearly beat LA - against all odds.

And Doc has done this over the last three yrs with an assorted bunch of players: Scal, TA, Sheed, Marbury, Miki Moore, Casell, PJ Brown, Posey, Glen Davis, Nate Robinson. And now throw in J.O, Shaq, and an almost entirely retooled bench.

Doc Rivers, IMO, seems to get the best out of his players, like a Great coach does. Danny gets him the players, and Doc makes it happen.

My point? I could not and still don't to this day understand what made some people on both sides so enflamed over Doc's comments.

I think he was Spot On. He did what Phil has done for many years (But yet Phil gets a pass?).

Exactly.  And the guys who do "The Machine" are astute enough Laker fans to channel that buyer's remorse into something pretty funny.  Can't wait for Sasha to get that big extension!
