something tells me its all becuase of his contract year coming up, baby is going to be a beast and finally what we expected.

i dont know if its just me but the Baby seems to be in excellent shape, not only in this pic hes in the gym of course but even others he looks noticeably a lot thinner.

He looks even thinner in that vid than in the "Dougie" vid....I'm getting more optimistic about him playing some "3" in spot minutes.

Still a lot of belly hanging over shorts in the pic.

we heard that before but, if you look at all the pix he really does look thinner! which is great, he can jump higher, Less risk of injuries, I don't think Doc will play baby at the 3 even though it is a gud idea, baby would punish any 3 in the league including LeCon.

all these pro athletes are in good shape. Even Charles Barkley (in his retired state) can still look like he's in pretty good shape. Remember that race he ran with Dick Bavetta? during the weigh-in, he seemed pretty fit.

He looks stronger than before--but still fat.  I think that greater definition is from bigger muscles more than from less fat.  Too much belly for the 3, but enough muscle to hassle Shaq in practice.

Oh, and with Perk out, Shaq on limited duty, only old guys ahead of him and Semih-Pro as the competition behind him, I think Baby's gunning for full-time backup minutes split between the 4 and the 5.  He'll probably pretty much get them, too.

I was with you until you mentioned (retired) Barkley and good shape in the same sentence.

In his MVP season Charles

Agree completely. I do admire the fact that he is trying to keep strong because that will be necessary to keep going for the entire season, however he needs some toning and probably a lot of yoga for flexibility a lot more than more muscle. More weight is only going to make him jump less which he can't have. Look at that picture of Barkley below and see the difference in truly being "in shape" and just being big. If he had gone on a workout regime to shed all extra fat and leaned up he'd have likely been jumping a lot better and would be finishing better around the rim. Not the kind of working out that he should be focusing on, however anything is better than the end of season 1 and how he came back that next offseason.

I'm sure he will be in as good shape as he has been in, but this picture doesn't show much.  His upper arms look lean, but so do the upper arms of 99% of the guys in the league.  His butt remains enormous.  I'm not saying he not in great shape, I just can't tell by the picture.  If I didn't know baby and saw the pic, I would think he's an nfl player, pro wrestler, or recreational body builder.  I don't see the pic and think nba player, that's for sure.

Actually, that pic makes me believe that he's not in good enough shape.  However, I'm happy that he's keeping his bulk b/c I think that's where he plays his best.

I know a lot of people on here have tried to use Barkley as an example of someone who rebounds and performs well despite being undersized in height, but that first pic of Barkley (in his MVP season) is drastically different than Davis.  Barkley looks very fit and lean in that pic, while still being strong.  In Davis I still see a ton of fat, and I really don't think he'll get anywhere close to the shape that Barkley was in.

Also, anyone's arms can look ripped or muscular if you take a pic WHILE they are doing exercises.  Heck, I could go out and take a pic of myself working out and appear 2x in better shape than Davis despite the fact being in shape isn't my job.

Ultimately I'm not sure there's much to glean from the photo.  I hope Davis keeps some bulk on and works on his vertical.. that's where he can succeed the most.

I feel like these threads analyzing players physique in pictures happens quite a bit. I feel there is no way to accurately judge what kind of shape these guys are in until you see them up close in person. Even on TV these guys look different.

Haven't you people ever seen pictures of yourselves and thought, oh my god I look like a swollen fat slob in this picture...or, wow! I look great in this pic!

The truth always lies somewhere in the middle...
