All you have to do is look at the Shrek and Donkey game. Nate everyday.

Nate has more offensive ability, but Delonte is a lot more consistent and is a better defender.  Nate is too hot and cold for me to say that he's better.

Given the current roster I expect the depth chart to look like:

Pierce / Daniels
Allen / West / Wafer
Rondo / Nate / AB

but I expect playing time to go:

Pierce / Allen / Daniels
Allen / West
Rondo / Nate

Which leaves the Celts undersized at the wing/guard spots from time to time, but the best players on the court. Hopefully Nate plays great and enables a trade for a better wing. The C's need depth behind Pierce and Ray with size and a better option at SF in case anything happens to Pierce.

I think West is the better player.

But to me, the question is Nate vs Daniels/Wafer as the other G when West is on the floor.

In that case, Nate would be the other G.

Delonte is a better fit and better player overall for this team. He could do everything Nate does, plus play 3 positions if needed. Nate is a better shooter making 3's, and Delonte is a better scorer making 3's.

I don't get it - Delonte's career 3-pt % is a couple % higher than Nate's - and Nate takes more threes per minute on the court - wouldn't that make Nate the "better scorer making 3's"?

When you weigh them out it’s pretty even:

                                Nate                     Delonte

Passing            1.82 AST/TO       2.24 AST/TO

Scoring              12 PPG                   10 PPG

3PT range             .357                      .373

rebounding        6.7 TRB%             6.5 TRB%

defense                111 DRT              107 DRT

steals                    2.0 STL%              2.0STL%

So i’d say that Delonte is the better PG, Nate the better scorer, Despite the better percentage Nate has made more threes, rebounding is a wash, and Delonte is the better defender.

IMO this could be the better version of that Marbury/House combo almost worked for a little.

100% correct - when you look at points/36 minutes, it's Nate 18.1 pts, Delonte 12.7

Nate.  The guy can be very explosive.  I think he could be a very important offensive player for the C's this season. And from what I saw in the playoffs, his defense was pretty good too.

As usual, couldn't agree more with Bank here. The reason Nate is he better player is because while both are flawed combo guards, the one above average skill Nate has, which is scoring the ball in bunches, he does better than any one skill Delonte does well. Delonte is a pretty good shooter but Nate can light up a scoreboard at any moment and that makes him the better overall player in my book.

Couldn't agree more as for those saying Delonte is a better shooter and scorer... What games have you been watching? It's time to jump off that Cavaliers bandwagon guys. You know who you are. Clearly you are mistaken if you think Delonte is better. I don't deny the fact Delontes strength is he can guard the 1 and 2 more effectively than Nate. But he's no where near Nate when it comes to explosivness in the open court and pure shooting ability.

To hope this kid is gonna be trade bait midseason is comical. He's the perfect backup to Rondo.  Come off the bench, wreak havoc, light up the backup ones, energize the crowd. He's our version of Vinny "microwave" Johnson. The real trade bait should be wafer delonte and sad to say Baby. Only  because Baby is on his final year and will demand more money than we can afford.

One thing that's stuck out to me about Nate over the years us the support and respect he gets around the league. I've read and heard a lot of stories about players from other teams singing his praises. That sticks out in my mind because the guys on the floor who play the game against one another are usually the best judges of talent. Not in every case obviously. But I tend to respect the players opinions of one another.

The last is very true - the Lakers LOVE Nate...

Nate started getting minute with Doc when he started to commit to the defense

The fact he re-signed tells me he is committed to playing Celtics level defense, and with that he is the better player

Nate is a crowd favorite for a reason. Crowd feeds off his emotion, and can turn a game upside-down with one play. Nate is much more exciting player. He alone can take a 1 point lead and turn it into double lead within seconds.

No disrespect to Delonte, but i'll take Nate all-day. Now that he knows the systems, I expect big things from Nate.

Delonte because of his versatility. I think they would be a good backcourt tandem. Both are tough and scrappy, both aren't great at bringing the ball up but are more than adequate, especially together. Both can score and both would work well together with Daniels, who is more of a slasher and can also D.

Does anyone really think that, as far as skills goes, Delonte is better at anything than Nate?  Take away the size advantage, and it's no contest.

From watching Delonte play during his cavs days,he surprised me with some of his development. He brings some of the same intangibles to his game as J.Posey did...he will come up with a steal when needed a rebound when needed,etc..He can bring more to a game than what is expected from him some times. The intangibles he sometime bring gives him that extra dimension to his overall game.

I agree with the original post and say Nate, but by a slim margin.

By the way it feels great to be back.  I've had a ton of homework this last week and I missed a couple of the World Championship games so I didn't want to see the results.  I've really just been extremely busy with hw though and I am really glad to be back.

I think ideally Nate and either Delonte or Wafer at the two makes the most sense. I see Nate really standing apart this year from the rest of the bench and really earning quite a few more mins than last year. A full training camp is gonna do this kid wonders. People on this board are gonna be very pleasantly surprised.

To me the main battle in training camp is gonna be between Wafer and Delonte. Which I see Delonte easily winning due to his intangibles that he brings. Like the rebounding and defense which has already been touched on. But it's all null and void if he can't keep his head on straight. So here's to hopeing that he does and makes a big impact at that backup two spot. Wafer will either be trade bait depending on his play or thrown into the fire if Delonte goes haywire. But he really needs to work on his defense and rebounding. That's what's gonna earn him minutes.

I like both but for different reasons. The first off our Celtic bench if both are healthy and we need offense is Nate. This is the most common need we will experience with our starters if history is any indication. Delonte will be used as a SG more often and for defense occaisionaly.

As others have stated, the real battle is going to be between Wafer and West. One of them is not going to make the roster IMO. I hope we start the season with a a Redz, Donkey and Shrek bench gang around an O'Neal.
