That Ray Allen has the best back up off guard he's had during his entire time here. House was "Ok" but too small to be a legit off guard and was a very mediocre defender. TA was a good defender and had the size for the off guard but couldn't shoot from distance.

Delonte?
Decent Defender at the position
Great mid range shooter
Decent slasher
Decent outside and three point shooter.
Can start a few games for Ray if need be due to injuries

This year and from day one of the season:

Perkins finally has legit backups

KG has even more legit backups

Rondo finally has legit backup in Nate

Ray finally has a legit backup in DWest

Pierce...Daniels is "ok"...if he stays healthy. I still think this is the weak spot on the team in terms of depth but if Danny can get one more guy with better size than Daniels in this SF rotation...we have not a single weak spot on the team.

If we stay healthy, I think we will steam roll the league much like we did in '86.

Scob I agree with your assessment. Daniels WILL spent time on the Injured List this season and he gets less damage at off guard and point guard. IMHO is is not adequate as a back up for Paul Pierce unless in very limited minutes. Danny will wait now in my estimation for training camp begins to add a LARGE Small Forward. Hopefully one that can shoot a 3 pointer?

How 'bout the postgame interviews?  Cripes, between Delonte, Big Game Davis, Shaq, Nate...  maybe not the starters, but has there ever been a more quotable bench?

wouldn't you consider DWest a legit back up for
Rondo.  He was our starting point guard at one point.

Great post and observations, Scoob.  With all the fuss and worry about a SF, I think many of us forgot that this is the strongest bench we've had since...heck, maybe since the '60's or '70's.  That '86 team didn't have much of a bench other than Walton, and the 08 team didn't have much depth at the start of camp beyond Posey and House, and I wasn't that sure of House at the time.  I'm pretty confident in what Nate, Delonte, BBD, and Shaq bring to the table, and Quisy as the 5th option on the bench unit sure as Hades ain't bad, either.

We should probably all quit ****ing and enjoy the season that is to come...

No.  Delonte may handle the ball more than Nate, but Nate will be the backup point guard.  Delonte will see most of his minutes at SG.  I think he and Nate will make a very solid backcourt combo off the bench.

We very easily have the best bench we've had in the Big 3 era.  I'm excited.

I agree, especially about how good we can be. A lot of predictions have us anywhere from 50-55 wins, but with this depth, we can easily win over 60 again. Health is always a concern, but that is exactly what depth is for. As mentioned, the only concern at this very moment is SF. I believe Daniels is capable for 15-18 mpg, but his injury history is a concern. And if either Pierce or he misses time, who becomes the backup, Harangody? Wafer?

With Perk (and maybe JO) we have a shutdown defense. With Shaq (and maybe JO) we have 5 offensive weapons in one unit. We have a bench that can score. We really have a ton of options, training camp should be fun for the team and especially the coaching staff.

Jesus, you're right. Bench guys probably wont shut up on this team. Watch the media pass right over the big 3 to get quotes from this crew. This is gonna be an embarrassment of riches for all the local beat writers.

I don't expect Perk to be playing shutdown defense before April, and that's if we're lucky.

Profanity isn't allowed, period.  However, filtering out certain words doesn't work well.  For instance, Rondo had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 14 ****ists wouldn't look great spread all over the forum.

Anyway, there's no need for any sort of swearing on the blog.

Right you are and a good post. Actually, I can imagine the Celtic bench being better than at least a few NBA teams right now.

Geez...when does the season begin?....

Whew. Glad to see that "geez" isn't a curse word on cb. :)

Agree, great bench on paper. Hope chemistry works. I think it will.  If Delonte sticks around for the next 2-3 years, could see him replacing Ray as starting 2 guard, with Ray coming off the bench for quick offense.

I think C's are positioned for a mid season move to leap frog other teams.

They will have a bunch of possibly expendable guys that can be consolidated into a single contract. I'm still hopeful they could bring back a top combo forward somehow.

Update:
The three main possibilities are Nate, Perkins, and BBD. All expiring, all useful role players, all with big enough contracts to get you someone decent with the 125% rule. If Sheed came back, they'd be in a position to move all three guys.

Shaq / JO / Semi
KG / Sheed / Luke
Pierce / New Guy
Ray / Wafer
Rondo / West / AB

I still see DWest playing more point.  What a great addition
