I've been seeing some comments in a few forums that Donny Marshall was leaving Comcast.  Can anyone confirm if this is true and if they've identified his replacement in the studio?

if this is true and no replacement has been named, I have a few suggestions for a studio cohost with that dip Tanguay.
* Scal - don't have to worry about him having another team sign him, he's entertaining and knows the game and players
* Toine - he's a Celtic at heart and god knows he needs a job
* Tommy - he's great at the game but may be looking for something a little less strenuous.
* Cousy - if they could coax him out of Florida (not likely) he always has some good insights into the game and players
* Jimmy Toscano - hey, let's get a little CelticBlog representation here.

Thoughts on who else would be a good candidate?

Scal would be great.  Dana Barros might be good at it.  Maybe Walter McCarty.
I think Cousy would be in way over his head.  He doesn't really follow the NBA.

I like the Scal and Toine ideas. Just think, we'll never have to see a "Bring back Toine or Scal" thread again. ;D

I like Tommy doing the games, but I don't like him in the studio.  Not sure about Cousy.

Edit:  Forgot to mention, I will be stoked if Donny is leaving.  Don't like him.

Walt is an assistant coach in Indiana, working with O'Bie.  Spent last year working with Pitino.

Scal would be a natural, but count me among those that think he'll have a job (playing) SOMEWHERE next season.  NJ has some young players that could stand having a guy like Scal around.

Scal?  Maybe he could be the league's first combo coach-announcer.  Then if we need him in February he could come back to play--and complete the trifecta.

Mad Max. Great insight, down to earth, knows the game and the Cs. Has Celtic credentials.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I wish the Celtics would hire Michael Smith in some capacity. Every time I hear him speak he is always insightful, easy to listen to, has a great knowledge of the game, and what always comes through is that he's a Celtic deep down in his heart.

Personally I think Donny Marshall stinks, and have always believed the Celtics could get the "cream of the crop" to work for them.  I always wondered why Donny, of all people, was working for the Celtics as he really had no connection to this franchise.

I really don't want to see Scal working in that position - let's get some new blood instead of some retread...

Those are all terrible replacements. Especially Scal.. you guys have heard his voice?  Scal has a face for radio and a voice for staying at home  :P

Agreed.  Not sure who they could get but hopefully someone fresh.

Good ridance this guy was never a Celtic.  He didn't do too badly but he was a UCONN guy and a Cav I just didn't feel the connection to the green.   Scal would be perfect.  I would not mind seeing Cornbread in that slot and Scal go to the radio team.  Maybe McHale would do it rather than NBA tv?  I think it should be a former Celtic.

I don't think Twon could do it.  He didn't know a good shot from a bad shot when he played how would his commentary be with that in mind?

I agree with your criteria

But I like Max better on radio...quack quack :)

But although I don't have any negative feeling towards Donny I wish him the best.

Like I said in another thread when we got Shaq.  Donny was on NBA TV saying he was the new analyst to NBA TV and he covered the Celtics for  8 years or whatever it all sounded like he was no longer with us.

Isn't Michael Holly the logical replacement?

For any of you youngsters reading, remember this is just a rumor at this point. But of course, back when he was playing with Ray Allen at U Conn he wouldn'tt have known this.

I like Max a lot. Funny, knows the game and isn't always a homer. Donny was pretty bad, He never learned that it was alright to have over 2 seconds without him interjecting something worthless.

I really like Dana, NESN is absolutely miserable with there new lineup. I think we could coax the Boston kid into actually working with the team’s broadcast crew.

Max would be fine, if 1) he'd quit with the "Quack" thing, and 2) he'd stop saying stupid stuff (i.e., Dirk is better than Larry) just to get attention.
