I know it's unlikely, but Bias never did play an NBA game, what if it turned out he was overhyped?  Or he tears an ACL and goes Larry Johnson on us....it's possible, we'll obviously never know

I think the point was as much the fact it was a LOSS OF A HUMAN LIFE, not purely Xs and Os...

Yeah, those losses went far beyond a loss in a championship game.  Bias, especially, would have almost guaranteed us additional titles, I think.  That was the ultimate stomach punch moment in franchise history.

I have to admit that although I followed the Bird years I was not a die hard fan and so the Len Bias ordeal did not have nearly the impact of loosing Reggie who we knew and loved for his smile and his up beat attitude during those tough post Bird years. When we lost Reggie we really hit bottom. "Ultimate gut punch" just about sums it up.

I agree. We never got to know Bias, and really don't know for sure that he would have brought titles, but we watched Reggie play and grew to love him.

In 1990 when we lost to the Knicks after leading 2-0 in the end of the Bird Parish McHale Era. We just were not supposed to lose that game in the Boston Garden. We just were not.

I hated that game seven blowout loss at home to Indiana in 2005.

Celts won Game 2 of that series scoring over 150 points in regulation to go up 2-0.  Things seemed great.

I remember Larry missing a dunk at one point in that series and thinking, "Uh oh" bad sign.

I second that. Nothing has really compared to that for me. Brutal last second defeat.

I really don't see how Bias is comparable considering we were still a top team. Lewis was tougher because of his history with the team, but we weren't actually contending.

I don't get too worked up on the dying aspect because we will all die. It happens.

I agree, but I don't think many fans look at it that way, sadly - they do more so with Reggie - but most don't see Bias as a Celtic, just a potential guy who could have extended the big three

That's when my (temporary) HATE for Jermaine O'Neal was at its peak.  He is now a savvy veteran who will fill a nice role on a championship team.

Yeah, I think so, too. I was at work watching a Tennessee Vols game when they broke into the game to announce his death. The first thing I did was run to the phone and call my father as if a member of the family had died and in some ways that's exactly what happened.

Red Auerbach put together a tradition and a team that would become a huge part of my family's traditions. Every Sunday the entire family was together for the network game of the week to watch the Celtics (back when they were winning and on every week)

The Celtics have been a huge part of my life and family experiences and Red Auerbach had everything to do with it.
