Read the front page article from his agents tweet saying he sees no NBA team good enough for Rudy. I bet that that's after countless days of them hounding Portland for a trade, and Portland asking for far too much from the asking teams. Rudy would be a great Pierce backup. He's not Ray Allen, but he is a great shooter and almost anyone can play team D.

Rudy and Babbitt for BBD,Gaffney and Lafayette + draft picks

Blazers need size and Rudy wants out. BBD gives them vet exp and room to grow alongside Aldridge and Oden. Gaffney/Lafayette are salary fillers since BBD made twice as much as Rudy. Babbitt could have been drafted by Boston anyway, but Portland took him first. I would have included Harangody but he can't be traded yet, but he did look good in the summer league so he could entice them more in December.

BBD for us is a 5th big man after Perk returns. He's played well for us, but not worth keeping around this year since he'll prolly bolt next year for bigger money in GS or SAC.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Or, we wait until Portland releases Rudy, and sign him for minimum.

They just drafted Babbit... If they wanted to trade him, they wouldnt have drafted him. Laffayette and Gaffney have 0 trade value whats so ever, why would anyone want them and why does everyone think all these other teams would in fact want them?

Even if they were just non guarantees to make numbers work I think that team still wouldnt bite.

I still think we can try and dangle a first round pick. Maybe a first and a option to trade a second + cash.

Rudy's value is too low at the moment, which is why there's no need to offer up something. If Portland can't trade him, he'll simply be bought out.

I think if Danny can offer him the chance to be the heir to Ray Allen's throne as the future Celtics SG (and I believe he can be a good one...Rondo needs a young alley-oop partner), he could change his mind.

That's precisely their appeal. Portland would have zero payroll implications by trading Rudy for those two.

If Rudy walks, at least a portion of his salary stays on the books for this year as dead payroll, even if there is a buyout (and I doubt there will be).

Here's what the RealGM board has to say about it.

Basically, Cho playing hardball. I don't think there will be resolution to this for some time.

Oh well. It would be nice to have Rudy. Then again, if Portland keeps playing hardball, maybe it'll cave by midseason and Danny can pounce then.

I think it's a bit of a bluff, but at the same time, do the Celtics want to give up a #1 for a guy who has talked repeatedly about bolting for Europe?

If the Celtics were willing to do so I think he'd be a C already.

Now? It was too late to grab him three months ago.

First thing that popped in my mind when I read this - he's trying to force Portland to trade him. Basically saying he'll be gone either way.

There's no way in the world he'll want to go to Europe if he can stay in the NBA. Best case scenario he makes a little more money then he would in the NBA (assuming he's stuck with a minimum contract in the NBA). This is a guy who constantly makes it clear he thinks he deserves a bigger role on an NBA team.

well, he is originally from Europe. This isn't like Shaq who's lived his entire life in the US and due to a lack of options is going to play overseas. Rudy lived and played in Spain, is currently playing overseas, and could really go back to Spain (i'm assuming) where 1) he could get a lot more PT, which seems to be what's really important to him and 2) probably get more money, which is important to everyone.

True. The interview posted in that RealGM topic DOES say that Cho will take to the other teams (including Boston) again, and who knows, maybe we actually give them something they want (but not too much, of course).

I believe he really wanted to be traded at one point this offseason but the Blazers kept playing chicken and he – like a lot of us – have gotten sick of it. As it stands, there’s no room for him in Portland with the addition of Wes Matthews (esp at such an overpaid salary - they have to play him). Everyone knows that, he asked to be traded and they've tried to play hardball. I read recently that he doesn't plan on reporting to training camp, I don't get why POR just won't deal him.
