Couple of questions:  What happens if someone places bids that total more than their remaining cap?  Even though they'll likely wind up not getting all of them, is this legal?  I only ask because Roy is getting close to that figure now.  (EDIT:  Ok, not anymore now that KWhit's made some bids, but he was)


Also, is the FAAB a blind bidding system, or is it similar to this one?  Can teams see others' bids and one-up them, or is this kind of like the original Dice-K bidding?

The FAAB is a one year deal.  There is no carry over for unspent FAAB money (so you tend to see some silly expenditures towards the end of the year).  FAAB $$$ have nothing to do with player salaries or contracts.  It is just an arbitrarily allotted amount for the season that teams have to spend using the free agent auction system. 

Also when you say we only get 8 keepers, does that mean the rest of our team goes into the free agent pool even though we have them on 2 year contracts?

Yes.  Think of the contracts less as a true binding contract, and more as an "option to retain the services" of players.  You are not responsible for the contracts of players you cut.  Really, the only time salaries matter is before the annual auction when you need to make your cuts and be under $250.  The less you have tied up in salary, the more you have to spend in the Auction.

Once the season starts you can go over the $250 cap.
