So you think Denver will trade a young perennial All-Star and potential MVP candidate for a headcase/expiring contract, a borderline starter and a project?

No.  If they trade Melo, they need to get All-Star talent in return.

Is that a joke? I don't get the punchline.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

What if it's the best they can get? I mean what if Carmelo publicly goes out and says, the only team I want to go to the is the Knicks, and if you trade me to any other team I'm just gonna walk at the end of the season........

....  ??? ??? ???

Why trade 'Melo just for expiring contracts....   when Carmelo Anthony himself is an expiring contract?

What?  If they trade him he is already gone.  I don't get what you're saying at all.

They don't have to listen to what Carmelo wants.

Anyways, that is not close to fair for Carmelo, he is one of the leagues top players.  It would have to be like Chandler, Gallinari, Curry and some picks, prob 2 first rounders or something.  Players like that don't come cheap.

No, they don't really need All-Star talent.  My proposed trade gives them Curry's big expiring, plus young talent that could eventually be All-Star talent plus two draft picks.  You're getting really good rebuilding pieces which is what this team needs if they lose Melo.  They are going to be in rebuilding mode.

There is no way they make that deal. Worst comes to worst it will be a 3+ team deal or Sign and Trade on July 7th.

That deal doesn't do anything for the Nuggets. They are trying to make the playoffs... They would need a scorer in return. Someone similar to Stephen Jackson, or even Michael Redd (even though he is coming off an injury).

Either that or a very good NBA prospect (i.e. Xavier Henry) who could fit perfect 2 years from now as a potential replacement.

I think this would make more sense

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29nqohl

To NYK:

Carmelo Anthony

To Phil:
Eddy Curry
Wilson Chandler/Gallinari
NYK future first round picks (2)

To Denver
Andre Iguodala
Danilo Gallinari/Chandler

if NY wants to talk to Denver about Carmelo...Gallinari is where they start.

Can't Denver just make a package that benefits them and forces NY to either do the trade or back out which hurts anthony's demands.
Carmelo for 5 first round drafts picks, billy walker, Gallinari, chandler, $$$$  whatever
If New York does it then at least Denver got some good value for carmelo.  If NY says no then where is Carmelo's bargaining posistion?

I think that people are forgetting that New York has traded some 1st Round picks already.  In the McGrady trade, they dealt Houston a possible swap of 2011 and the 2012 pick itself.

Knowing that picks in consecutive years can't be traded, New York can't trade a pick until 2014.

So 2 picks would be 2014 and 2016.
5 picks would be 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022.

Good luck selling Denver fans on not getting your full return on your best player until 2022.  Also good luck in getting the Knicks to trade their first round pick 12 years from now.

Carmelo will not be traded for expirings, since he is one, or garbage.  Denver would rather let him leave, decline Chauncey's option, let K-Mart leave, and rebuild around Ty Lawson, Nene, and a ton of cap room.

No.  If they trade Melo, they need to get All-Star talent in return.

They would if their convinced they'd get nothing for him otherwise. And New York probably wouldn't mind dumping Curry's salary sooner rather than later.

The only thing holding this up is the fact that the Knicks have no draft picks to trade, and Denver probably wants one to make it happen.

But, if it comes down to the trade deadline, and Denver is 100% convinced Carmelo will leave, and wants to go to New York, they may as well got something for him. So who knows.
