Just for fun...Parish, Bird & McHale were brought together pretty young. They won 3 titles.

If KG, Pierce and Ray were brought together in their mid 20's and assuming they had the equivalent of DJ and Ainge at the Center and point positions for their team...

How many titles do you think that trio would have won?

I think they might scare 6 or 7 titles in 10 years.

2008: title
2009: possible title if KG stayed healthy
2010: 3 minutes form a title
All this in their dotage against the likes of Wade, LeBron and kobe lead teams...

What do you think?

Can you imagine a younger, slashing Pierce and a three point assasin like Ray with the manic prowler KG under the glass?

How many titles from 2000 through 2011?

The only team that could have beaten them were the Lakers with Shaq in his prime. How well equipped they were to deal with Shaq would answer a lot about their run.

They'd have been favorites every year certainly.

KG and Pierce alone in their prime would have netted the team atleast 3...remember that PP almost did it in 02 with toine as his sidekick, Say for example that in 02 It was KG and not Toine and with Allen as the assasin as well, a Kenny anderson PG and Battie center would have been enough to get us a title then.  KG, PP and RA would have been a sick trio that hypothetically could have won atleast 5 if they were on their primes alone...In 08, they are old already and exiting their primes and still won.  Heck, Ill even go further that a team with KG, PP and RA on their prime would have beaten Bulls 72 wins.

Yeah, I agree, they would have had a fair chance at matching or beating that Bulls record.

The only teams that were arguably as good as or better than the Celtics would have been during those seasons were the 2000 and maybe the 2001 LA Lakers. So they would have been the favourites every year from 2002-2008. At least five titles, at the minimum. Probably six or seven.

It's a tease to think about.  KG was such an amazing player those years in Minny... it would have been one of the best teams in NBA history, that is for sure.

I'd say 4 titles, including 08.

I'd agree about the Bulls.  The Bulls were the most dominant team ever, but I maintain my stance that the mid 90s were one of the weakest times in NBA history.

I mean Luc Longley started for them and he probably couldn't even break our rotation this year.

That's a good point about the mid 90's.  I'd say that the NBA was even worse though in the late 90's/early 2000's, so if KG, Ray, Pierce had been here that early I could see us breaking the Bulls record and with back to back titles.  Again, at least 4 counting 08.

I mean look at the dominate teams of that period.  The Spurs teams were really good but KG/Pierce/Ray in their primes beat Duncan/Ginobili/Parker in their primes very handily.  And the Pistons squads were a great team effort from a number of very good but 2nd tier players.  There is no way they would have beaten our hypothetical Celtics squad.

Lakers would of been tough but otherwise I'd give us a great advantage over any other teams during that period.

Paul and Ray were injured in 2007, so I don't think there would have been a title that year.

Every other year, the Celtics would have been prime contenders.  I think they would have had tough series against the Lakers and Spurs, but I think they would have made it out of the East fairly easily (especially since Danny wouldn't have facilitated the Rasheed trade to the Pistons.)

Yeah, that would've have been a sick team in it's prime. I still think they might pull off another ring this year if they stay healthy.

I think as some have mentioned, the Lakers of 2000 and 2001 also the Spurs would have been tough. I think we would have beaten the Spurs every time though and I'd give us a very good fighting chance against the Lakers as well ( we'd probably go back and forth against them )...

I'd say 6-7 titles.

I thought that had we gotten lucky and been able to Draft Durant and then add a real young Power forward to go with Rondo, we could have also been on our way to multiple titles.

I'm very interested to see what Ainge can pull off with all that cap space in 2012...to add to a 26 to 27 year old Rondo & Perk.
