Yeah most of u r gonna say, "he was a laker" blah blah blah. The fact is i dont care, the kid is a great defensive player and is EXACTLY what we needed on this team. I was a fan of his game when he was in NYC, and he always showed ability. I dont care if he was a Laker, I want to win a CHAMPIONSHIP!

Houston pretty much traded him for Courtney Lee which is like a salary dump. If Danny actually held on to Sheeds contract and traded Sheed + 1st for Ariza I would of been more then happy with that. Now we're going to another undersized wing and are left with Quis to gaurd Lebron... :-[

Danny why o why do u love undersized players?  :(

Ariza's contract was too long.

Ariza wasn't available for cheap.  He pretty much was dealt for Collisson so idk what you're talking about.

4 way trade buddy. Collison went to Indiana. Houston gets Courtney. If Houston was willing to give him up just to get Courtney Lee in return, thats pretty much a salary dump.

Ariza's contract was too long.

Hes only 24,25...6 years? who cares. He fits in to what we need now and would have had plenty of time to slide over into a starting role.

Yeah most of u r gonna say, "he was a laker" blah blah blah.

We have Shaq now, so that argument is moot.

And while I would've loved to have added Ariza, it doesn't appear he was available in a straight salary dump or for a 1st round pick. Courtney Lee is not just a rookie scale contract toss-in.

We don't have a comparable player. Although Bradley could fill a similar role, though I suspect minutes are going to be hard to come by under Rivers.

I know it was.  I posted the trade originally on here.

Courtney Lee isn't that good. He's not going to play that much in Houston. Not over Martin, Battier, Budinger or even Lowry when they go small. The kid isn't going to play more then 5-10 min a game.

As for your other statement Avery Bradely is a good 5-6 inches SHORTER then Ariza he is not filling the backup 3 role at all! Peirce needs a backup whose actually over 6'5"...we dont have one.

I really would have loved to have gotten Ariza!  I really think it was a dumb deal for Houston.  It shows they obviously would rather be under the luxury tax than win a championship.  So glad I'm a fan of a team that is willing to spend a little over to win a championship.

Well given Martin's injury history, it's not safe to say. But I agree Lee will be the fourth guard off the bench.

Still, I don't think you're giving him his due. While he wasn't up to shouldering the scoring burden in New Jersey, he's one of the better young defenders at his position, has poise, a great work ethic, and a nice mid-range game for a fourth or fifth option.

Oh, and I meant Bradley might be our Courtney Lee - not our sixth man 2/3.

  • You say when......
The loss of TA starts to sink in......one guy at work complained that TA couldn't do certain things.....I said...YET...let him get it going, get the ball some more with his new confidence, from his stellar D...which there isn't ANYONE on the C's to do now. Ta was 28..? Perfect age, experienced, tall enough, athletic...so doc should have had him work on his ball handling skills..easier to teach than that D he was playing on Wade and lebron and kobe......Ariza would have been a good replacement..but 6 years is tough....

I really don't understand your frustration here. Obviously Danny wasn't sleeping, as you have said. He held on to Sheed's contract up until it was clear that he wasn't going to get anything that he liked for it. Ariza would be nice to have, but it's clear that the rockets were asking more than we could offer. Lee is a solid young player. He's a very good defender with a consistent jump shot. I'm not sure why you are saying he won't play over Battier and Buddinger, etc. Lee is a SG, and he will get pt on that team. And yes, he was basically traded for Collison. The team that got Ariza (which in your case should have been us) gave up Collison and Posey for him. How could we beat that? Ainge has done a great job this summer, give him so credit.

I am pretty sure DA tried his best to get us something with Sheed's contract, but things might just not have worked out. So far with the type of money we had, DA did a very good job this off season, so I think we should really stop blaming him if certaing things don't go the way we wished they would have gone.

I too would have loved to have gotten Ariza, but it is what it is. No point in crying over spilled milk.

Courtney Lee is better than Sheed and a 2nd round pick, which is essentially what everyone on this board proposed in every trade proposal.  What wonderful package do you think would've made Houston change their mind?

I don't think it had anything to do with the salary or his former teams.  This had to do with Houston getting a better return than what we can offer.

This one doesn't leave me crying.  Ariza was not really impactful in any title runs.

Courtney Lee isn't a bad player, by any stretch.  There's no evidence that we could have gotten Ariza in a straight salary dump.  Even if he were, I think Danny craves long-term financial flexibility, and wouldn't want to take on Ariza's deal.
