With the 12.20 pick, the DENVER NUGGETS select

James Singleton

Got lost in the shuffle in DAL with their addition of Marion, but reverted back to the high energy, super rebounder, locker room presence in WAS. Comparable numbers (actually slightly better) to Brandon Bass, taken 2 rounds early. A poor homeless man's Shawn Marion
James Singleton is a nice addition. I would play him ahead of Drew Gooden.

Singleton + Duncan/Darko would be a very effective defensive pairing.

I used to like Singleton, but he was terrible last year.  Forwards who shoot 38% from the field don't last very long in the league.

I'd definitely prefer Gooden.  He's a much better rebounder and scorer.  I don't think Singleton's defense is so good as to make up that offensive difference.  I'd consider Singleton's defense to be pretty average, maybe a slight tick above.  (Gooden's, of course, is below average.)

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
Yes! YES

The Nashville Magic select:

Josh "THUNDERCLES" McRoberts

Our plan is to clone him four times to make our depth chart look like this:

PG: Josh McRoberts
SG: Josh McRoberts
SF: Josh McRoberts
PF: Josh McRoberts
C: Josh McRoberts

Everyone else is now on the block.

I will defer to IP's empassioned defense of JR from last year's draft for defense of this pick.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

As someone who was privy to the Magic draftboard at one point, I had imagined my esteemed rival in Nashville was going to be excited.

Here's to not disappointing me, Champ.

Its rare that such an unstoppable force falls to the mid-12th. But with baited breath I waited, and finally my gamble paid off.

Plus, that man can wear the hell out of a sweater. He's gonna look good on the bench for us.

And with the 22nd pick in the 12th round, the Buccaneers select: Elliot Williams.

Before the draft, during an individual workout in Santa Monica, Williams registered a 48-inch vertical leap.

The highest mark measured at this year's NBA draft combine was 40 inches.

Ahh, that's too bad. I was hoping he'd slip to the next round.

Excellent draft pick.

Agree that Gooden > Singleton.

I've always thought that Singleton was cut from a similar cloth as Brandon Bass, Leon Powe, J.Maxiell, etc.... slightly undersized bigs who play bigger than their 6-8 frame, pure energy, grit guys off the bench who get most of their points mostly on hustle, put backs, etc.

he's the least offensively accomplished of that 4some, but even with Powe in reb/min; the leader in steals, blocks and commits fewer turnovers (all based on per/min)...

Powe/Maxiell/Singleton/Bass

In the 12th round we think it's a solid, if unspectacular get  ;)

Nice, I decided to go young with Orton but Diop was in the mix.

Excellent draft pick.

High character kid with elite athleticism and good basketball IQ. A defense-first freshman at Duke who transferred to Memphis on a hardship wavier played both guard positions and finished second in the conference in scoring.

Quote
At the Blazers' shootaround Thursday morning, Williams sprinted down court on a five-on-zero drill and emphatically hammered down a windmill dunk.

"He's a dynamic, dynamic player," Blazers summer league coach Kaleb Canales said. "He's explosive, he's smart and intelligent, and you can tell he's got a good feel for the game."

On a roll - have gone 2-2 with Who. Too bad those were 11th and 12th picks...

I like what Singleton can do defensively with your big wings.

I think he'll help create a very effective defensive lineup. A defensive anchor in Duncan or Darko. A quick undersized four defensively with Singleton. Two big wings with Brewer, Ariza and/or Childress. You can slot Westbrook in there as a large physical point guard too. So it would be Duncan/Darko and four extremely quick, long and active defenders who can cover multiple positions and supply great trapping team defense and play the passing lanes wonderfully well.

I think Singleton and Gooden are fairly similar on the boards.

Gooden does have the more effective offensive game and he could give your second unit a nice low post option while Duncan is resting with Darko out there on the floor. On nights where you need that, I'd go with Gooden ahead of Singleton.

Overall though, Singleton would be the guy I'd be calling on more often. I reckon his defensive play + combinations / lineups he can help create will oftentimes bring more to the table than Gooden.
