Arenas is good value talent wise. You have all your players enter via metal detector right?

He ought to get 26 minutes a night, splitting time at C with Cousins. JT and Landry will compete for PF minutes.
I don't think so.

Thompson played 31 minutes a game last season and Sacramento considers him a combo PF/C. Carl Landry got 37 and half minutes a game after joining the Kings last season. Both players have long term futures with the Kings. It would be a shame to limit their minutes to the same position. Then you have Cousins (second most important building block after Tyreke) who should be getting 23-30 minutes a night based on his conditioning.

Sam Dalembert, a 12 month rental with no future at the club, should only get the scraps left behind them. If Sacramento do otherwise they will only be harming their long term future.

Thompson also started games at SF last season, and it's clear that they consider PF his eventual landing point. Landry can fill in at C (he did in spurts spelling Yao), but isn't the answer as well. Rather than risk guys developing bad habits, I think we're going to see a lot more Dalembert than you think. Cousins is the only real threat to Dalembert's spot, and he's likely set for a yo-yo season. Sam, somehow, is the balancing, levelheaded veteran on this team.

I agree with both of you.

Cousins, JT, and Landry are the future of the club. But I think it's highly unlikely that Cousins will be able to jump in and take the starting C spot from opening night, and play 30+ minutes. Way too many adjustments for him.

People might think some picks and trades this round were crazy...

but none crazier than this!

we knew this would be a pick that gets some flack -- esp. given how much (StartOrien?) got for him last year.

He're my rationale.... (not that this stuff ever really changes anyone's mind)......

YES we plan a Westbrook-Arenas backcourt,  with Westbrook drawing the tougher defensive assignment each game and Arenas working off the ball on offense (and offensively anchoring the 2nd unit like Ray Allen often does when the Celtic starters go out)

And YES last year there were legit questions if he'd ever be the same player again after missing essentially 2 full seasons. But in 37 games with the Wizards he averaged 22.6 pts, 4.2 reb, 7.2 ast, 1.3 stl, 2.0 3pt in 36 min/gm. So *those* questions are answered in my mind completely.

They're replaced with questions of if he's a loon, a team cancer, a chucker, etc.

As Roy mentioned, we're banking on surrounding Arenas with quality guys (Deng, Westbrook, Camby, Millsap) to keep Gil in line.

This is Westbrook & Deng's team but Arenas will have the offensive green light he wants/needs. Gilbert's not a leader, but we're not asking him to be (which the Wizards were...). We're asking him to be the Hibachi, the deadly offensive, uh, weapon that everyone on this board knows he is.

And, we fully expect Arenas (on the Wiz, on the CBD Nuggets) to be in full "forget you!" mode this season with so much to prove & a chip on both shoulders.

Y'all know that I put a high priority on how players fit, "chemistry", etc. in the CB Draft.... I agonized over this pick. But felt like we had the right kind of guys around  him.  It's a gamble but at 4.28 if can add a 22 ppg scorer you have to take that chance.

Nice game plan GC. And thats likely how Agent Zero will play this year in real world with Wall getting the PG duties and Arenas acting more like a 2 imho.

I knew that was coming soon.  I didn't expect it from GC, though.

You have the right type of team for Arenas to thrive on, though.  Westbrook, Deng, and Camby are all plus defenders, which helps make up for Gilbert.  Deng and Camby are passive enough not to fight for touches.

This was exactly the thinking in DENVER, Roy. Guys like Z-Bo, Arenas, etc have to be surrounded by the right teammates to even make an argument.

we think we've done that in DEN.

We debated long and hard (with myself, yes.... i'm as crazy as Gil) about taking another guy we like a lot since he'd be more popular w/ voters, but forget that... this is fun and watching Arenas drop 30 on the other teams in the West is gonna be wicked fun!!

GC, like I said, I meant on a literal level.

I actually really like the value of this pick.  I would have drafted him now to go with Kobe if I was up to pick.  If you ever feel like trading him, you know a guy who's receptive right here.

p.s. how awesome is that pic?

Those of you who remember my little speach against Baron Davis?

Stuckey is one of the four players who had a higher usage and shot worse than him. So the list is.

1. Russell Westbrook
2. Brandon Jennings
3. Rodney STuckey
4. [redacted]

The fourth won't be selected for a very long time.....

Wanted to pick him up, but he's a SG locked into a PG role. Gaudy numbers, but tough to make a case for running the show. Good value on a talent basis since he can fill it up, but he's a tough sell on a team with 2 other guys that also need the ball in their hands to be effective.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Hmmmmmm...should I? It feels right...but is it?

Aw heck here goes...

Looking for an infusion of veteran experience as well as some additional size and toughness in the paint, The OKC Thunder Grizz select...

Jermaine O'Neal

The rejuvenated and highly motivated JO will team up with the always improving Marc Gasol and eat anyone's lunch who dares enter the paint.

A member of the Celtics AND a member of Roy Hobbs's winning team last year? That's a twofer!

I think this a good pick for this point especially with the premium on big guys
