that would be pretty crazy. What would the rotation be? Maybe trade baby?

I wouldn't trade Baby, these guys are all around the same age, meaning they will all retire around the same time (1-2 years apart), by that time, we will have no bigs...besides baby, all our bigs are 32+

The problem is Baby wants minutes and will want big money once his contract is up soon. Do you want to give him a large contract next year, or trade him now for someone that we may actually be able to keep after next season?

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Trade Perk once his rehab appears to be solid.

Sorry, but I didn't like his "no comment" when Shaq was signed.  Any player should be happy to have help. and yet I think Perk seems threatened by it.  I don't like him at all and I hope Danny sends this scowl-faced-technical foul-waiting-to-happen idiot somewhere else.

I think Perk as well as a draft pick could garner a nice return and I'm all for running with our bigs "by committee" because we'll have them signed on for the next couple years.

Honestly, I see Perk as the odd-man out, and that doesn't bother me in the least...

Perk is the youngest and best defender out of all of our centers, and we most likely can resign him for relatively cheap compared to what guys like him can get on the market, I wouldn't trade him. Davis on the other hand will seek as much money as possible next year and has some major limitations to his game that cannot be overcome, I would trade him.

Have to admit, I was far less than impressed by the "No comment" crap, too (TP) ... I think Perk's letting his ego get a bit ahead of him, and he needs to keep in mind that you can go from valued assett to expendible very quickly in this league ... especially when you're injury-prone.

If Sheed has not made official retirement is for something, this is great news for Boston, Sheed is a very important piece, especially for the playoff.
I've always had hoped to be back, hopefully, his teammates want him to return to the team because they know that Sheed is a very important player for them.

Come on back soon !!!!, Sheed
Allen Iverson is still a free agent, Danny Please sign it for him to win the ring this year with the Celtics.

Chemistry issues aside, Rasheed can help this team. Sure they may be a bit of a logjam at the 4 and 5 but you never know with age and injuries. Any or our bigs could go down to injury and you never know how Perk comes back. Rasheed seemed to be very unipressive in the regular season but looked very good in a lot of the playoffs. He can always play the 4 too.

Shaq would sit out alot of back to back games the past couple years.   I could see that happening with Sheed, KG, and even JO to keep them all fresh.   If they all play 60 to 70 games during the season with this type of plan there should be enough minutes to go around and then they will all be fresh for the playoffs.

It's no guarantee Perk will be himself this year but if he happens to be full strength for playoff time I see it as only a plus having a surplus of bigs so there would be no chance of a Sheldon Williams type siting or in this year's case Erden. ;)

This is going to sound weird, but I wish we could get an unproductive, uber-talented young big and see if he could develop under the tutelage of KG, KO, Shaq and now maybe Sheed. For example, I repeat for example because I don't want this guy, but what if Sean Williams learned for two years under these guys? It's not like they would play significant minutes. I just think this would be a perfect time to groom a player and not force their development.

And don't tell me this is why we got Erden  :)

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Perk, KG, Shaq, J.O., Rasheed, BBD, Harangody, Erden

Is it fair to say that it's not very good roster balance to spend 8 out of 15 roster positions on big men?

I'd rather see us cash Rasheed in for somebody that can help backup the wing.  If Rasheed does come back, I think we're almost compelled to move BBD, because he's just not going to see minutes (and would then leave as a free agent.)

For this team, this would not be good news, no matter what the minions of Sheed fans and fans of last year's team think. If he was coming back then Shaq wasn't necessary.

It also takes away an important trade asset in his retiring contract. And for those that mistake patience in the summer for lack of availability to move Sheed's retiring contract because it isn't valuable, you couldn't be more wrong.

By year's end and even deep into the playoffs, Glen Davis was the first big coming off the bench and there's good reason for it. Simply put, he had become a more consistent and better player than Rasheed Wallace. And one of Baby's problems is his inconsistency, so that speaks volumes about where Rasheed's game had deteriorated to by year's end.

I can only hope this is just Sheed having some difficulty that all jocks have when they know for sure they just don't have it anymore and that he is smart enough to realize that he doesn't want to and physically can't handle the grind anymore.

Again, until I hear this from Sheed or Danny, I am chalking it up to speculation with little to no merit.  Danny and Doc have both gone on record saying Sheed was retiring.  They have filled his spot, and there really is no room for him anymore.  Other than these guys fishing for stories, the vast majority of the evidence points to Sheed not coming back.

Of course when you break it down a bit further to what I think will be the Active roster you'll only have 5 bigs.

KG
JO
SO
BBD
Sheed - still think he's less likely to come back.

I seriously doubt Erden and Harangody (if signed) will start the season on the Active roster.  And even if they do carry all of them neither of them will get any meaningful PT.  I thought the goal was to limit our bigs minutes even more this regular season.

So patience is in order either way Sheed decides.

I agree with Nick- we simply don't need Rasheed anymore.  There aren't enough minutes to go around.  We are just going to have too many centers who need minutes.  Plus, the start of the season when Perk is out is when we could use him, and thats the time when he is going to be out of shape and hurting the team.
I hope he is traded for something useful and then retires.

I disagree. Perkins may very well not contribute at all this year, and Shaq, Jermaine, and KG all have some serious injury history, it is highly unlikely that we get through the season and playoffs without one or two of them missing some serious time. Also, as other people have stated, limiting their minutes helps all of them. Having Sheed back would be much, much more useful than a wing who will play 8-10 minutes a game. We lost the finals due to lack of size, not lack of wings, and our wings right now are already as good or better than what we had last year. Big men win in the playoffs, period.

Sheed remains a major player, especially in the playoffs, the season is long and sure to be some injuries.
Furthermore, Why Sheed has not made his retirement official yet?
While Ainge and Rivers have said he would not return, he has not said anything.
What is clear is that the Boston players want the return of Rasheed is a very important player for the locker room.
