SherrodbCSN: Is #Celtic big man Rasheed Wallace having second
thoughts about retiring? @THE_REAL_Shaq thinks so. Story up shortly.

It wouldn't be the worst thing to happen quite honestly, but I don't know how I would feel about this to tell the truth. If he stays on board, we would HAVE to swing a trade. Way to crowded in the front court if this happens.

EDIT: SherrodbCSN: Story about Sheed's possible return. http://

Ok, so it's per Shaq. Still, it would be rather interesting.

The return of Sheed? Shaq thinks so

Boston Celtic fans might have to put those retirement party balloons for Rasheed Wallace on hold.

The newest Celtic, Shaquille O'Neal, said Wallace may in fact return to the C's this season.

Wallace told the Celtics during the NBA Finals in June that despite having two years and nearly $13 million left on his contract, he was planning to retire.

The Celtics have spent the summer looking for potential trades involving Wallace, which would allow them to bolster their roster in his absence and allow Wallace to walk away with whatever buyout amount he could work out with the team that acquired him via trade.

However, the C's never came across a deal that they liked.

But those plans to move Sheed may be scrapped altogether.

"I know Rasheed is thinking about coming back," said O'Neal, who was in attendance at a charity basketball game in Orlando, Fla. "Rasheed, go on and come back for one or two more years."

If Wallace were to return, Boston would have the kind of frontcourt depth and versatility that would be unmatched in the NBA this season.

In addition to Shaquille O'Neal, the C's big man rotation includes Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal and Glen Davis.

Shaq says rasheed is probably coming back which i think is good news...this is interesting because jermaine o'neal said he was gonna talk rasheed into retuning as well.

I don't mind Sheed coming back, but that means someone has to go -- Erden can obviously be shipped off, or at least cut with no great financial loss, but do the C's also trade Baby or Perk? The frontcourt is already borderline crowded, and Boston still lacks another backup wing.

if rasheed is coming back i think this means Perkins will be out for the whole season..which is good in a way because it will allow a full recovery for perk and not ruin his and the celtics future by rushing him back,

Garnett, Shaq, Jermaine, Davis, Rasheed = Green 18

I think if this happens, Baby may be traded for Rudy or C. Brewer. Personally, I hope he retires.

Duh! Don't over think it. Sheed isn't passing up this opportunity. Retirement can't wait. And Paychecks are nice too   ;)

Welcome back Sheed  :)

Erden and a pick for Fernandez?  Does that sound good? Leaves room for the Scalabrine lovers....

Rasheed should come back. Marquis came back, Nate came back, Pierce came back, Ray Allen came back...

...is it still too late to trade for Allen Iverson  ;)

Looks like celticsblog may need to re-add sheed to their roster. :) I really see no reason to not want him back, especially since no worthwhile trade partners are popping up.

What kind of chemistry can we get with 6 players requiring minutes at the 4 and the 5?

I think Sheed has skills that can help a lot if he gets minutes. But Doc would not be able to stick with a lineup throughout the season since he needs to keep the 6 bigs happy. This would mean unclear roles.

It is good to have talented depth, but we would be stuck with major imbalance in the roster. The added value from a good wing off the bench would be more than the added value from another 4/5, especially at that salary.

None of our bigs are really capable of playing big minutes anymore.  What if you used all of them for 15-25 minutes a night?  In an ideal world, it would keep them all fresh throughout the season and allow them to go all-out for the time they're out there.  Also, each of our bigs has a distinctly different game on each side of the ball.  If you're Bosh or Gasol, imagine trying to muscle with Shaq for ten minutes, only to have to chase Sheed out to the arc when Shaq sits down, only to have to deal with the quickness of Baby/JO/KG right after that.  It would be impossible to get into any kind of rhythm against that.

It wouldn't really suit Perk, though - as a defensive specialist, he's the type of player whose impact is felt over the course of an entire game, rather than quick 5-10 minute spurts.  But with five other bigs who can create their own shot on offense - and each in a unique way - that strategy might have some merit.  If nothing else, it would be impossible to gameplan for.

that would be pretty crazy. What would the rotation be? Maybe trade baby?

I wouldn't trade Baby, these guys are all around the same age, meaning they will all retire around the same time (1-2 years apart), by that time, we will have no bigs...besides baby, all our bigs are 32+
