If this is true awful deal for McGrady... If thats the case I would have loved to see Boston give him the vet min to be the back up 3... I mean seriously? He chose the Pistons? Wow.

exactly what i thought, why the pistons, they're not going anywhere

if he wants the vet min, just come to us...Pistons not giving him starting role anyways

Minutes should be paramount to McGrady. He needs court time and to a lesser degree touches to figure out for himself, once and for all, what he has left in the tank.

Minutes over winning

I think he will play, and the pistons will use prince/rip as tradebait.

Those two guys have been tradebait for twelve months.  Even if they managed to unload one of them (likely Prince), there aren't going to be a lot of opportunities to be had in Detroit.

Gotta figure that T-Mac didn't have a lot of options.  I mean, why sign in Detroit?

1. It ain't the money; playing for the vet min

2. It ain't the glory; Detroit would need to get very lucky to get into the playoffs, they're miles away from contention

3. It ain't the playing time; competing with Gordon, Prince, Rip, Stuckey, Bynum, and all the other guys for court time.

4. It's freakin' Detroit.  Remember the last line in the "Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video?"  "WE'RE NOT DETROIT!"

What does all of this tell me?  Twenty-nine other teams took a gander at T-Mac and decided to take a pass.

Why would either side even be considering such a deal?  As has been referenced, if McGrady isn't going to chase a ring, then he needs minutes to prove he's still got it so he can grab one more significant contract.  Even if McGrady is healthy, why would Detroit want to give him minutes when they've got Rip, Prince, Ben Gordon and Austin Daye on their roster?

TMac is an idiot then, Pistons are not going anywhere this year

I'm more disappointed that the Pistons have talent and can't even make it to the playoffs, not even 7th or 8th seed...

I am not sure he has a whole lot of options.  I get the feeling the contenders all passed on him.

Wouldn't T-Mac have been better off re-signing in New York?  Third wing alongside Gallinari and Azubuike.  Play under the bright lights in a very offense-friendly system.

Makes me think that it wasn't just the contenders who weren't making offers...

I also think it's 100% confirmation that Detroit is seriously looking to deal Prince and/or Hamilton.  I know it's only a vet min deal, but you don't sign a guy like McGrady to be your 5th wing.

Were they offering him a contract?  Word has it even Detroit was hessitant to give him a deal.  I don't know that there was a contract in NY or anywhere else.

That's what I mean, though.  Don't think there were ANY teams, other than Detroit, who wanted to extend an offer.  Wasn't just the competitive teams that backed away.  New York brought in a couple of good, younger wings, but they would still have room for another guy in the rotation.  If they're not offering a contract after having seen him last season...   well, I just don't want to hear people crying about why we didn't bring T-Mac aboard.

Who here would trade Sheed's contract and BBD for Tayshaun?

Personally, I would. Granted he'd only be a one year and we'd loose a young energy guy. We'd also have to heavily rely on all of our old bigs to stay healthy come playoff time.

However, Tayshaun is the backup wing that we NEED. He'd be a perfect fit. Long and somewhat athletic, can shoot, post up, defend, etc. Not sure if Detroit would do it since they already have Maxiel but its worth a shot.

Nope.  He's not worth giving up Baby.

Detroit will be a playoff team this year if they're healthy. Health played a huge part in the reason why they didn't make the 6th,7th, or 8th seed last year. Three of the top scorers were consistently injured.

Detroit is a fairly deep team. Although I expect Hamilton to be traded this summer.

PG: Stuckey/Bynum
SG: Hamilton/Gordon/White
SF: Prince/Mcgrady/Daye/Summers
PG: Monroe/Jerebko/Villanueva/Maxiell
C:  Wallace/Wilcox

Mcgrady will give them size at the two if Hamilton is traded for a frontcourt player. Monroe will be a stud. Prince will probably stay due to his expiring contract, if not, Dumars will wait till the trade deadline.
