For Shaq, this is as much about pride as anything he's ever done in his career. To cement his legacy by raising Banner 18 with Celtics, becoming the first ever player to raise banners as both a Celtic and a Laker, and to do so by defeating his rival, Kobe, in a NBA Finals grudge rematch would be one of the greatest achievements in sports-- he'd be a hero to the two biggest rivals in sports (sorry Sox fans but 27 to 7 is not so much of a rivalry).

Is it any coincidence he chose a number no other Celtic has ever worn (#36)? This is Shaq's last hurrah and if he can retire on top, he can feel as if he went out on his own terms. Game 7 set the stage for all of this, now all we can do is sit back and watch the fireworks  8)
Never stop believing baby~

There is no doubt that much of the reason Shaq is here is that he knows that gives him the best chance to see Kobe (and beat him) in the finals.  That would mean the two of them would be even with 5 rings each.  Let's hope this wish comes true!

If we don't lose Game 7, Shaq doesn't need to come to Boston because Sheed would've probably stayed until his contract was up.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I'll do you one better - we hoist Banner 18 in June 2011, and then hoist Banner 19 in June 2012!

This will give Shaq 6 rings, Give us 19 Banners, KG, Ray, Paul, KP, RR 3 rings......and Permanently Seal LA's shot at catching us!

After all, we are on a 2-year plan from Danny, right? Everyone, with exception of Paul and Rajon, are here for Two years.

I know I'm thinking WAY Ahead, but man this would be nice!

Stay cautious guys. Don't let your guard down.

We got KG in 2007 but LA countered with Gasol in 08. We got Shaq now to address the middle but LA will make another counter attack. I bet they will move either Bynum and/or Odom to get another big, possibly from their favorite trade partner Memphis. They might get 7'3" Thabeet to give them respectability in the middle and they might try to pull CP3 into their roster. They always come up with a counter punch against us so beware before the season starts or at trade deadline. They will meet matchup troubles in the middle with Shaq on our side now but they will try to utilize Bynum whom I think won't get the job done. Thus, they might get another big.

No one can say for sure, but a Game 7 loss, coupled with Perk's injury, surely helped bring Shaq to town.

If we don't lose game 7, Doc, Ray would probably not be back... I think Doc would have been like, I accomplished what I needed to do, and now its time to retire this coaching job..
Yeeeaaaa!!!

Yep.

Agreed...  This is more about Perk's situation than anything to do with game 7.  I'm not expecting anything from Perk once he does come back, as his conditioning will need helped along, and the confidence factor he has in his knee will take another year as well.  He's a big guy, and that's a lot of weight on that knee.  We'll be grateful for the depth - we'll need that depth.

Good Point, GH - I just don't see how any NBA team could willingly make LA strong like that.

We all know about the Pau trade, and how lopsided that seemed. I just don't see them pulling off another coup like that again.
