I want to talk about what could potentialy be the best bench in the NBA.

Check it out...

Nate Robinson
Von Wafer
Marquis Daniels
BBD
Shaq

Even if we dont make a move that is a lot of talent coming off the bench.

All of these guys can run with the starters but I want to talk about them as a UNIT since Doc likes to do this often.

Think about the energy these guys can bring. I am giddy thinking about BBD, NAteRob and Von Wafer on the floor at the same time. These guys are all very high energy young players. Having a big body like Shaq in the paint defensive rebounding and with these guys allows them to really get ahead of the defense and push tempo.

Then you have BBD, the human offensive rebound added to the mix and the energy becomes infectious. At home I can see the Garden errupting as this unit extends leads to blowouts or picks up the slack if the starters come out flat.

Even if the push game is not available on one night, you have a 7 foot 300 pound man who can still plant himself under the basket and create mismatches. I can see this bench playing the halfcourt game too.

For once we have a whole bench of guys that at one point have proven that they can produce in the NBA.

Of course there is some concern about Wafer (will he return to his 08-09 form?) and Daniels (Umm Quisy...what happened last year) but we know these guys can be good. They both are desperate to prove that last year was an abberation, and not a reflection fo their talents.

Yes our team is old. Yes they are slower. But make sure you  are only talking about the starting five because the bench will be electric this year.

And I havent even mentioned Avery Bradley yet who has to tools to be the most exciting player not named Rondo on the entire roster. I also havent mentioned the fact that if Perk comes back healthy that we have a stockpile of competent and huge centers.

Considering the hand he was dealt, Danny Ainge has really impressed me by rebuilding the bench this offseason making us silly deep. He has done this without using his biggest trading chip. Somehow this bench I have just been clamoring about can get even BETTER before this offseason ends...

Good luck to the 2nd unit that has to body up to BBD and Shaq on any given night. Expect to see some pretty battered up back ups.

That's a lot of lbs to deal with.

i got a bit excited reading your post...our bench is nasty =), if Sheed comes back (IF), that will be amazing, KG's minutes will definitely be limited and his legs will be fresh for playoffs

DO IT DANNY BRING US A WING FOR A GOOD PRICE

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
I went in to this offseason thinking the Celtics had run their course and were now on the downside. However, after all the changes and non-changes this offseason, I quickly wrote down the lineups and the depth charts for the four real contenders, (Boston, LA, Miami, Orlando), and lo and behold the Celtics had by far the best roster. Of course a lot depends on injuries and tired legs, but the Celtics will not by on the downside this season, they will be extremely dangerous.

our bench will straight up own the Heat's

we know how Eddie plays, and Eddie is probably their best coming off the bench that can supply instant offense

Their bigs? no problem

In my opinion they still need a back up wing that can defend 3's.  Right now the only such person on the roster that can do that is Marquis Daniels, and he is less than durable.

Very excited about the outlook, however one more back up wing and the roster should be complete.  Also do we think JO or Shaq start until Perk gets back?

Agree that there are questions whether Quisy can stay healthy. If there is someone out there, then Dannny should get him with Sheeds contract. If not, assuming health, Daniels could be awesome this year.

assuming health is a dangerous assumption for an aging team that wants to limit minutes during the regular season....but i hope you are right

Quis picked Lebron's pocket twice in the season opener, he could do it, if he stays healthy, he would fresh and have minutes unlike last year...the emergence of TA basically took the minutes away from Daniels

I think the 2nd unit will be Snaq, Baby, Harangody, Daniels and Nate.

Snaq + Baby + Harangody = The Bruise Brothers

Nice post. TP. Love the optimism.

The C's will do like they've been doing the past few years.  Winning with Depth and defense.  This might be the deepest team they've had.

Good work DA.  Over the cap?  Poppycock!!

agreed. We are screwed if Daniels goes down.Im just really pulling for him to have a good year. He has lost alot of money the last two years trying to showcase his talents on a winning team. 2 Years ago he was coming off of a career year and signed a minimum deal with us. It must have hurt to sign the same deal this year.

Gotta be Jermaine starting, he at least has a chance at running the floor with Rondo.
