Excluding Sheed and Lafayette and Oliver and not including who we get for Sheed's contract, with Shaq the avg age of this team is a whopping 28.
In comparison the Lakers avg age is 30
Miami's is currently 27.9
Mavs is also 27.9
Age is all perception the Spurs are considered old and they're avg age: is 26.6
Are we older than the avg team, yes. Are we an old team, no not really. And that experience is what carries us (and apparently the Lakers) come playoff time.
Average age isn't everything.
The core is what matters. The end of the bench usually skews the avg age one way or the other (either rookies or 38-year-old players like Finley). Our team is built around (believe it or not, it's not Rondo yet) the Big Three, and they are all undeniably aging. Shaq has been playing for nearly 20 years, and there is no getting around that. JO is on the wrong side of 30, and is a high-schooler. BUT, the rest of the team IS young, from Rondo and Perk to BBD and Wafer. Add in Bradley and 'Gody, who can both help this year.
The Spurs are old, Duncan is aging, Manu is breaking down. After that, they don't have much anyway, regardless of age.
The Lakers are kinda old too, Fish/Bryant/Artest are all up there. But their bigs are younger.
