Are people tired of Bill Simmons? I really am. If you take a look at his Twitter feed he is already ripping the Shaq signing. You can predict what he will say before he does. How can you argue? Shaq at the veteran minimum with Sheed's contract still in Danny's pocket. Danny has had an amazing offseason. He brought back the core, strengthened the bench and most importantly brought Doc back. If you are complaining you are just a complete moron. The Celtics had limited resources and hit a homer run in my opinion. We will still see how it plays out.

I'm not going to bother with the Simmons stuff except to say if you're tired of him, don't bother reading his twitter feed and don't start message board posts about him.

There are legitimate reasons to not like this deal that do not make someone, as you so pointedly note, "a complete moron." Shaq's left a trail of scorched earth behind him on a number of teams. There were issues in Phoenix and it does appear he demands and causes issues if he doesn't get the playing time he feels he deserves (Cle).

Anyway, I'd suggest you park the "complete moron" stuff.

Apparently, we don't have a nodding emoticon.  Too bad for me.

I have to agree, Dumbest move celtics have made since they let Vin Baker join them, another lazy, whiny fat player that doesn't play defense. Will totally ruin the Celtic chemistry, can't play pick and roll or perimeter defense. Clogs up the lane for great driving players that can't shoot, like Rondo and Lebron. Stupid move by the Celtics. Everyone seems to think we just landed the Shaq of 6 years ago, no, this is the Shaq that ruined the the Heat in his last years, took the suns out of the playoffs and sent Lebron packing from cleveland.

Why can't he start a message board post about Simmons? Not all forum topics have to be praises and adulations. The message boards are also intended to discuss opinions on all sides of a topic. If he doesn't like Bill Simmons work and would like to discuss that with the rest of us, he is perfectly entitled to do so.

I would suggest you don't take the time to post on a topic just to tell other people what they should or shouldn't post.  What he did to Simmons, you did to this post. If you don't approve of this particular topic, simply don't read it, or don't post about it. But we can.

I am tired of Bill Simmons, but I am also tired of people posting messages on message boards about how they are tired of Bill Simmons.  But, I am even more tired of people posting on message boards about how if people are tired of Bill Simmons they shouldn't post messages about him.  Most of all though, I'm tired of people posting messages on message boards about how they're tired of people posting messages on message boards about how they're tired of other people posting messages on message boards about how they're tired of Bill Simmons.  That being said, I will defend those people's right to post such messages, to the death.  Literally, to the death, using whatever implements are at my disposal, which right now includes little more than a phillips head screwdriver, a roll of wrapping paper, and a bottle of multivitamins.  If I walked into an internet cafe and saw somebody try to stop another person from posting their views about whether or not another person should express their view that a third person should shut up about their views about Bill Simmons, I would pick up Bill Simmons and clobber that person over the head with Bill Simmons.  That is how passionate I am about the First Amendment.

Same guy predicted Celtics losing to D-Wade Heat last season. Dude Sold out long time ago.

Well, the Boston Celtics proved proved him and the ESPN playoff predictor wrong last season  :P

The game of basketball is decided by the actual players, well except in the case of game 7 of the Finals (see 'Con-yay West').

Regardless, the Miami Heat will certainly be vastly improved this upcoming season. Honestly I could care less who Bill Simmons picks to make it out of the East; things like that make me less motivated to skim through any more entries from his column 'The Sports Guy' unless it's an absolutely pressing issue.  ::)

I was tired of him three years ago, and frankly, anything he says isn't worth getting in a bunch over ... he's a legend in his own mind, and as such, needs to be minimalized by us, the people who choose to read, or not read, his version of Celtic "Authoritative Journalism" ... gag. (TP, OP)

I've only been a Blog member here since Oct09, so I'm not familiar with Bill's relationship here with The Celtics. I read somewhere here a few months ago that he was once a diehard Celtics Fan....

What happened to him? He seems to have become our number 1 enemy.

He's a huge Celtics fan and has been for decades. But for varying reasons, a lot of people here hate him.

These reasons usually include some of the following:

-He lives in L.A.
-He uses too many pop culture references in his writing.
-He's a "sellout" (not that this is a shared term, mind you).
-His writing has jumped the shark.
-He goes to Clippers games.
-He overreacts to certain Celtics-related things.
-He doesn't react enough to certain Celtics-related things.
-People are jealous of him.
-He's an alleged narcissist.
-He works for ESPN and ESPN is evil.

Seriously, what do you guys want from Simmons? The Celtics looked like absolute garbage in the 2nd half of last season and so he picked them to lose in the first round (which yes, I disagreed with). But in losing to teams like WAS and NJ at HOME down the stretch, can you really crush him for that prediction? I think if anything, you call him a fan who was frustrated with an underachieving veteran team.

I come to this site and everyone is overly optimistic, which is fine and I welcome it. But to see him being somewhat realistic about the team's chances last year was also fine. Now, regarding Shaq, who cares if Simmons doesn't like the move? To throw a hissy fit and claim the guy isn't a real fan is just garbage. Read his articles. The dude clearly cares about all of his teams and can self admittedly become grumpy and pessimistic at times. I think we've all been there. You simply cannot  expect the guy to come out every time and praise everything the Celtics are doing and pick them to raise another banner ever year. That's just ridiculous.

Thanks FallGuy (TP)..I understand it a little better now. Seems as if he's become jaded somewhat. I guess LA can do that to a man over time.

Not to deflect the thread, but I wish that Tim Legler was allowed to do more at ESPN. He seems to have one of the most even-minded basketball brains out there.

Even for the LA series, he was maybe the only one that I can remember that gave Boston at least 7 games..he predicted we'd lose, which we did, but he gave us a chance all season and into the playoffs.

Tim Legler seems well-versed in Basketball History.

Any reaction to Shaq is an overreaction here ... that is, this a pretty risk free move for the Celtics - low dollars, low years.

It's a good fit to their 2 more years strategy

And how do you know that, given that the parameters of the deal are unknown?

only finite number of ways to do this deal ... and Ainge's pattern has been to line up every non-essential contract with KG's so this team can rebuild on its own terms.  So really all the Shaq deal costs in money - and they can part ways if it doesn't work out.
