Are people tired of Bill Simmons? I really am. If you take a look at his Twitter feed he is already ripping the Shaq signing. You can predict what he will say before he does. How can you argue? Shaq at the veteran minimum with Sheed's contract still in Danny's pocket. Danny has had an amazing offseason. He brought back the core, strengthened the bench and most importantly brought Doc back. If you are complaining you are just a complete moron. The Celtics had limited resources and hit a homer run in my opinion. We will still see how it plays out.

Bill Simmons jumped the shark a few years back or to put it in his terms, Bill Simmons is now Teen Wolf 2 or the Karate Kid 3.

WEll I mean... we need more youth and athleticism and we bring in Shaq and Jermaine... how's he supposed to react?

Shaq will probably help a little, though.

Shaq at the MLE (like Sheed got) and I agree with him.  Shaq at the vet min is really hard to criticize.  Of course we don't know if it's vet min yet, though.

Simmons is funny and a pretty good writer, but he's sliding more toward "Bitter Middle-Aged Fan" mode every year.  However, it's fair to note that Shaq has left every franchise since LA in shambles or close to it.   He's kind of an Angel of Death for contenders lately.

I think Shaq will really help this club. The difference with us vs. Phoenix and Cleveland is they both needed him to be a major factor, we don't. He will anyway though and just because of the fact that we dont need him to be. Under the basket you still can't guard the guy and he is a solid rebounder and shot blocker and let's face it, is there a tougher guy in the league?

Couldn't agree with you any more. Simmons is one of the worst fans I've ever heard of.  I hope Simmons realizes all the true Boston fans have long since left his fandom. He relies on the casual fan since all he does is make pop culture references.

Shaq will probably help a little, though.

But given a) our financial constraints and b) that Danny wanted to compete for a title this year, what exactly would you have him do?

We'd all like to get younger and more athletic, but the only way to do that would be to blow up the core.  And it's not worth giving up a shot at 18 to start rebuilding a year or two early.

While I do enjoy reading his stuff, he's really lost a bit when it comes to the Celtics, he's more of an NBA fan in general.

I'm not going to bother with the Simmons stuff except to say if you're tired of him, don't bother reading his twitter feed and don't start message board posts about him.

There are legitimate reasons to not like this deal that do not make someone, as you so pointedly note, "a complete moron." Shaq's left a trail of scorched earth behind him on a number of teams. There were issues in Phoenix and it does appear he demands and causes issues if he doesn't get the playing time he feels he deserves (Cle).

Anyway, I'd suggest you park the "complete moron" stuff.

Why do we need more youth and athleticism? It was the old guys who came through for us last year.

Good post! The 'moron' stuff really amazes me.  I realize blogs, texts, and other impersonal/anonymous communication have de-sensitized us to quick-attack name calling, but I have to say - at the risk of sounding too old to blog - it's always offensive to me.

That said, I generally agree with the OPs more salient point -- Shaq, if signed to the minimum, is hard to pass up. And I agree that Danny is putting together a pretty strong off-season.

Why can't he start a message board post about Simmons? Not all forum topics have to be praises and adulations. The message boards are also intended to discuss opinions on all sides of a topic. If he doesn't like Bill Simmons work and would like to discuss that with the rest of us, he is perfectly entitled to do so.

I would suggest you don't take the time to post on a topic just to tell other people what they should or shouldn't post.  What he did to Simmons, you did to this post. If you don't approve of this particular topic, simply don't read it, or don't post about it. But we can.

I have tried to contact Simmons to discuss in the past but he neve responds. I am not here to name call. Anyone that knows me, knows I would say what I say on Twitter, a blog or messageboard to the individuals face. I do not hide behind some secret name. If you like my opinions you like them. I am a die hard Celtics fan and am very happy with what Ainge did with limited resources. Shaq averages 12 and 7 last year. If he gave us anything close to that it would be huge. How can anyone dismiss this signing when you watched the Celtics get killed on the offensive glass in Game 7? Shaq gives us size, toughness, rebounding and allows Doc to rest KG and Jermaine. People will say his FT % will hurt down the stretch but how much better of a FT shooter is Perk. DA still has Sheed's contract for one last piece. Look at the bench. We got excited about Marquis last year and look how much more we added. I'm sorry is I came off as a name caller but that's not me.

He's really annoying now. I used to really enjoy his articles, now I rarely if ever read them.

I don't know if he is simply a half-glass-empty type of guy, doesn't want to come off as a blatant homer, or if he has been living in LA too long, but from what I have read over the past two years, he is WAYYY off in regards to the Celtics and even the NBA in general (but then again, look who he works for).

Maybe he's trying the reverse jinx.
