I was looking through the list of which free agents are still available and came across Rodney Carney.

I know that we have re-signed Quis as back up for Pierce, but at the same time I think we should think about getting another SF as an insurance in case Pierce or Quis get injured again during the regular season.

So what do you guys think about sf depth of :
Pierce / Quis / Carney

I like Carney alot. I think he could be a really good role player if placed on a nice veteran team. “highlight reel waiting to happen.”

I think the RJ comparison is justified. The only thing he’s missing is a Jason Kidd to play alongside.

I like Carney a lot too. I think he's a player that just has found the right team/role yet. but he brings some good things to the table.

Not sure DA is looking for any more wings at this point, though. Quis and Wafer added to Bradley might be it....

Sure wish we got a look at Bradley this summer.

I'd love it if Danny signed Carney. An excellent way to round out the reserves on the wing.

interesting proposition. i would be behind the signing if we didn't have a pretty big need for a backup big. i think DA should address the frontline depth first before going back to the wings.

Agreed.  With the signing of Von Wafer, and the anticipated signing of Harangody, the Cs are at 14.  That 15th spot should go to a big, which, no pun intended, is the biggest need at this point.

Not sure I like Carney.  He seems like Gerald Green, real athletic, but not much game.

.. which, unfortunately, means Scal won't be back with the Cs
(even though I think he should, as he'd bring more than Semih Erden).

But we don't even know what were getting from Erden yet. With Scal were getting a glorified practice player and human victory cigar. Let's at least give Erden the benifit of the doubt until after preseason and we know a lil more of his game and what he brings to the table. He could be a serviceable big if he quickly acclimates to the NBA style of play. I acknowledge it's a long shot, however he has shown a few flashes of potential. Mainly he's got wick feet for a big man and seems to move fluidly that's a good first sign. I don't know about his hands but we will soon find out. He'll need to pick up our defensive schemes fast if he wants any chane of pt.

I strongly suspect the D-league guys and their non-guaranteed contracts are going to be moved or waived to free up another 2 spots.  Bradley certainly makes Lafayette beyond superfluous and while Gaffney's defense might be useful on the wing, the guy averaged 5 points and less than 3 boads in nearly 24 minutes a game in summer league.

The C's are at 14 not counting Laffayette and Gaffney.

2. Ray
3. Rondo
4. KG
5. Perkins
6. Davis
7. Sheed
8. JO
9. Daniels
10. Bradley
11. Wafer
12. Erden
13. Harangody
14. Robinson

I miscounted, but you also can't count Sheed.  His contract is either going to be moved for a player or his roster spot will open up when he officially retires.  They are not going to pay him 6+ million dollars this year just to hope he rejoins the team for the playoffs.

So there are really two spots open, though Ainge might want to leave a roster space available for a trade/vet signing late in the season.

I was originally in the Carney camp. But with Daniels and Wafer on board already, I would only want a wing who is a clear upgrade over them.

On the open roster spots available, yeah we've got 2 in play - and one of them needs to go to another big man. And I wouldn't be surprised if the big man in question will be a returning Rasheed Wallace.
