After seeing their draft position, what do people think of the "modified snake" format?
I think it should help even things out, and will give the teams with lesser first rounders some real trade chips to build deep squads.
I think it will help even out the talent "league"-wide and most importantly gives all 30 teams a legit shot if they play their cards right (i think it was much harder for picks 20-30 last year)... and think that it's great to try. Little wrinkles like that will always help.
But I must say that picking high brings it's own challenges (having had the #1 pick last year).
A LOT of talent goes off the board between 1.1 and 2.30, waiting again to 3.30 this year is a lot more talent gone...
(of course trading can (and we think in ORL last year did) help mitigate that, but it's not like anyone didn't look at players 2-12 just b/c we had Lebron... I think if anything, there's a natural inclination to be MORE critical of a team with a top-5 talent).
And the central debate in both Celticsblog drafts is who would win --- a deep team with lesser high-end talent or a shallower team with more big-time stars. I doubt that will go away with this system....
just my 2 cents.
Maybe next year we'll try a lottery-per round!! It's all ubuntu, Celticsblog Draft is back baby!
