Ron Artest graced the cover of this week’s ESPN The Magazine. In it he discusses a whole lot of things, none more interesting than, well, everything. Here are a few tidbits: “‘Alcohol was part of the problem. At 15 I started to get twisted, and at 16 I was getting lit up on a regular basis. By the time the Bulls drafted me, I’d drink in the house all day, then go play a game. But I stopped drinking heavily in Sacramento. I’m sure I wouldn’t have made the same mistakes if I hadn’t been drinking. Was I crazy, or was I not sober enough to have a clear mind? That’s the question.’

‘I’m much more mellow now. I can control myself on the court. If I get fouled, I say what I gotta say and move on. I don’t mind being punked anymore. If someone gets in my face, I just walk away. Against the Celtics in the Finals, Tony Allen got in my face, but I don’t got the time for Tony Allen. Now, if you’re a star and you’re talking trash, I’ll talk back. All series long, Paul Pierce was talking: ‘You’re a bum, you can’t score, you can’t guard me, I’m busting your ass.’ Everything.’

‘[I'm most at peace] at the beach. Man, give me a mango drink, some sand, that water, and it’s all good. I love running in the sand. But sometimes I’m scared as hell of water. Whenever I’m out there, I’m thinking, [dang], some tidal wave is about to come! Okay, so maybe I’m not totally at peace at the beach.’”

Glad Pierce's trash talk hasn't lost a step even if he has.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I hate to say it but Artest really owned PP in G7. Since he got the ring, he can say whatever he want....but he is still a jerk to me. Let's wait and see, this clown will fall again.

ESPN interviewed him.  I have not read the article, but I'm sure ESPN was asking him about it.  Also, ESPN is a magazine that comes out every 2 weeks.  Even if the finals were over a month ago, they have had cover stories set up for the next 2-3 issues before this one.  I have no issue with this.  All he did was come out and say what Pierce said.  No big deal.
do it

Yeah, I don't recall Ron ever coming out with stuff about drinking or any stuff that would hurt his team unless someone asked him a question that led to it.

If he could just put out a tell-all book about his life that would cut back on all the "news" about him really.

Ron  Artest has the brain of kumquat why anyone would care to know his opinions is beyond me.

Oh and he played well for an awful player not well in general, fyi.  But this being a Celtics blog I can see where that can be misconstrued.  Just here to help.  : )

Evidence seems to point to Ron Artest not being dumb. Just emotionally unstable.

The reason I expect it to be misconstrued is there are a lot of people who can't read through the fog of their own emotions and Artest answering questions leads them to desperately try to find reasons to fault his comments to appease their anger.

Artest did own Pierce in game 7. Pierce has always had a big mouth, which is fine as long as you back it up. If you're talkign trash while someone else is lighting you up, I think it's time to "shut up and put up" rather than running your mouth.

I wasn't particularly fond or Pierce's "we ain't going back to LA" comment after game two...it's sophomore commentary.

If he said that stuff, then he should have been going head long to the rim in game three for 48 minutes to back it up instead of letting the Lakers come and stick it up our back sides in game three.

That game three still really gets me. How you can win game two and come home with a chance to close it out with three straight and you throw up a complete choke of an egg in game three and immediately lose your advatange, like a bunch of rookies who've never been there...

I love Pierce, but sometimes I've felt his play doesn't always back up his mouth.

As for Artest, the guy is worthless, which makes losing to him all that much worse.
