Does money really mean that much to Shaq? If it does fine, but I would think he would rather compete at the highest level. Who knows though. To each his/her own. I still would love to see Shaq sign with the Celtics but I am having my doubts. I am still not opposed towards using Sheed's contract to land him for a price he is comfortable with. A front line of Shaq, Perk, and J.O. would come a long way in the 2011 Playoffs. J.O. could spell KG a lot too to keep him fresh.

I definitely don't fault him. As I said earlier, each player has to make the decision that is best for himself. I just figure that an opportunity at a 5th ring and maybe a little retribution towards Kobe, Lebron, Dwight Howard and DWade would be nice. I still think the Celtics have a legit chance here.

The thing is, I believe Forbes reported him to have earned 10-15 million dollars in endorsements last year.  Will he be able to get that in Europe?  I'm not so sure. 

Thus, he may earn more money in the long run staying here, even at the minimum.  Combine that with a shot at a 5th ring, Kobe, and a shot to move himself even higher on some NBA statistical records, and he has some compelling reasons to stay here too.

It's a spin to get a better NBA contract. Nobody will give him 10 million for one year in Europe and I don't think he's really considering leaving US.

How much did they give Childress?  Almost 7 million a year?




Shaq would be a huge draw over there.  I have no doubt they would sign him.

Yes, but Childress was coming as young star in his prime, one of the first in this stature and they really overpaid him. Plus, you need to consider that two year ago the economy in europe was in a better shape. Nowadays, there isn't a player that even making 4mil per yer in europe and they won't give 10 for a wash out star. European basketball is not in that place anymore where they need gimmicks.

At this stage of his career, he's a role player and need a right situation to be effective. He won't take a team to euroleague title by himself.

Again, the economic situation in many european countries is not as good as it was few years ago. There maybe 1-2 teams that can somehow pay that much, if at all. And if they can, they would rather use it on someone in the prime.

I completely agree. You can go to Dallas or something for 2mill or Rome, Paris, Athens, or Moscow or something for 8mill.

Plus he gets a chance to grow his brand internationally. I almost see it as a no brainer

many things have changed since childress got the 7m/y offer but it looks like it won`t happen too soon again

The greek goverment has changed the way proffesional athletes are taxed. Now it`s about 40%. So the 10m for Shaq would cost ~14m to a greek team. I`m pretty sure he won`t get an offer from Greece (or any other euro team) for this kind of money.

I'd like to see Shaq go to Europe. That would be fun to see.

Not wild about him playing on any of the contenders. He doesn't really fit in ... at least not in a large role similar to the one he had last year for Cleveland. He can still get that type of role in Europe. 20-25 minutes a night. One of the main scoring threats on the floor.

I can blame him.  He has made about $250M (one quarter of a billion dollars) in basketball contracts and that is not including endorsements. Yet he is looking for another 10M? 

If he was seeking 50-100M then I could see it as one more big payday. But for a guy who has easily grossed over $350M in his career, is 5-8M actually a big?

Sounds like the Big Ego hasn't changed much and it is starting to make me wonder if he would be willing to fit in with the "team" no matter where he goes.
