He definitely has offensive skills worth giving him a shot.At some point he has to work out with a team or his NBA career will be over.Maybe this is the time after going overseas he's had a wakeup call. Some players in the past went overseas to play and came back with a attitude adjustment and a better appreciation for the NBA when they returned.Lets hope this will be the case for Von...Welcome to Beantown Von!
I agree I like the signing, what do we have to lose. I'll be [dang]ed if any chemistry issues are going to disrupt our team because of Von Wafer.

Let me repost what I said about Von Wafer in a previous thread about him:

Von Wafer is a head-case with injury issues who had exactly one decent NBA season. Also, he is an ex-Laker, which might be even worse.

Before he was drafted, he reportedly got frustrated by physical play in a workout for the Suns, intentionally elbowing a guy and bloodying his nose on a drive to the hoop, then walking of the court.  His college career was marred by a suspension and benchings due to attitude problems.  The guy once threw a fit because he was being taken out and got sent to the locker room by Rick Adelman in the middle of a playoff game.  He's been reported to yell at coaches and walk out in the middle of practice.

He failed a physical when the Rockets (and Grizzlies) tried to bring him back in 2009.  The reason he was available was because his Greek team was willing to part ways with him because of attitude problems that had resulted in Wafer being benched.  Some fans are suspicious that the Rockets said he failed his physical as a pretext to cover up that they decided that Von Wafer was still an unbearable ass.

He's athletic and a good scorer, but his reputation is that of a black hole who seeks only to score when he gets the ball and who doesn't rebound or play defense.  This is a guy who probably thinks he is good enough to take Ray Allen's starting job, then will pout when that doesn't happen.

He signed for vet min so if he does one of his past head-case stuff, he will be waived right away. Not a lot of risk and potentially a steal.

So why have so many teams dropped him so quickly?  Does he have serious attitude issues?  Are the C's on a rehab binge after succeeding with Nate?

How many teams has Eddie House played on, or Matt Barnes, etc. etc. etc?  Sometimes that's the way it is with certain players.

In the middle of last season he failed physicals with both Memphis and Houston.  Not sure why he failed, but maybe we shouldn't get excited until after the physical.

Given that the C's are expected to sign Harangody ...
Wafer’s signing brings the roster to 14 (including Sheed), leaving just one open slot. I don’t want to be alarmist, but Wafer’s signing tells me Boston ain’t gettin’ Rudy or West — Wafer’s the extra wing, and I presume that the last roster spot will be given to a big. But who knows? I guess Danny could still swing a trade involving Sheed that will bring back a big and another wing (Shaq and Parker/Moon? Rudy and Pryzbilla?). Based on the one season he got to play a lot -- '08-'09 with Houston -- did well offensively. Let's hope it continues.

I think you have to take into account that if we're still targeting Rudy, then we'd be moving 1 or 2 players (if the deal is Laffeyette + Gaffney + a 1st Rounder) so the roster spots wouldn't be that much of an issues.

Exactly why I'm not exactly ecstatic over this signing... It just seems like his reputation really proceeds him in the worst way. I'm really hoping we're still looking to get Rudy, and Von is more of a "just in case" guy.

Many "bad attitude" guys have come to the Celtics and turned it around. Let's hope Von is one more of those guys.

Well he is going to be a bench player so it's not like we are going to have sky rocket expectations from him. If he can give us a few productive mins, then that is all we need from him.

Besides for the vet min we weren't going to be getting a walking double-double.

This is a touch underwhelming...

Well, if Nate and Von Freakin' Wafer can somehow share the ball and play a team game off the bench, not only should Doc get another COY nod, but some recognition from the Vatican for performing a miracle should shortly follow.

I guess the bench will score, though.  That'd be a nice change.

Looks like Danny didn't consult the 'Brain Doctor' on this signing.  I wonder if Danny still works with him?  Haven't heard about him in a couple years.

Danny does still use him. I saw the two of them talking when they aired the Chicago pre-draft camp on ESPNU.

I can't really think of a bad apple that has acted out here and poisoned the culture since Doc came on board. Marbury played poorly, but he didn't seem to be cancerous at all. I guess you could say Mark Blount did but that's all I got.

If he can be healthy and return to the form he was at in Houston in 2008-09, this is a steal.

If he gets back to that form this is definitely a steal.  I really wanted the C's to get him when I heard he was coming back last year. I really really really hope that we still are going after Delonte or Rudy though!   I really wanted both of though so lets get all three lol!

lol....before this Von signing happened, I too was on board for getting both West and Rudy, and I guess I would still love for us to go after them. I mean yeah we will end up with ton of guards, but hey at least we won't go into those scoring droughts that were a pain last season.
