as i'm sure all of you are aware, it's been announced that Rondo made it through the final cuts. Good news? I dont know about that.

Part of me wishes that he got cut. And that the reason that was cited was because he lacked a reliable jumpshot. And that's why the team was gonna go with the likes of D-Rose or something. I think that would've lit a fire under him and would've really pushed him to vastly improve on his jumpshooting skills just to stick it to them and also, to show that he's the best PG in the league.

Look, us Celtics fans already regard him to be a top 5 (and for some of you, top 1) PG in the league. And i'm sure he thinks that too. But if he gets cut by team USA, i think it'll serve as a great motivation for him to work on that one glaring weakness. I mean, i'm sure he knows it's a weakness of his but we win a heckuva lot anyway so maybe it's not motivation enough. Or maybe i'm just rambling.

Your thoughts?

Actually the team is down to 15 members right now, so they still need to cut 3 more.

All this assumes he doesn't already work on it constantly and that it's laziness that's holding him back, not his freakish fingers or confidence. I have never once heard a report that a coach said that Rondo was too stubborn to work at his game, just that sometimes he was too stubborn to listen to how to run a play or how to be a leader. I have never seen his work -ethic questioned, and when someone ha a glaring a hole as Rondo's jumper and no one is calling him on not working hard enough then you know he already has a fire lit under him.

I think a summer under Coach K can only help him. Doc is one of the best in the game at managing personalities but coach K is one of the best in the game at teaching. I'm sure Rondo will learn something he can use next year.

Hey who knows maybe Rondo makes friends with some elite young talent that could help us lure them once the big 3 leave and we have cap space.

And yes as a BC grad I died a little inside talking about coach k like that.

Maybe he'll be able to recruit some players to come to Boston after 2012 if he sticks around this summer.   8)

I will never buy the long fingers argument. There are plenty of big men with long fingers who shoot very well. Rondo has large fingers for his height, but are they larger than all the big men who are good shooters?

There are definitely multiple things that Rondo works on in the offseason, one of them being shooting. It is hard to evaluate his effort without being able to compare to players who managed to go from being very bad shooters to decent.

People use the long fingers excuse for Shaq, but I've read claims that KG has longer fingers and he is an excellent perimeter shooter. Would be nice to know actual measurements

Ugh no I don't want rondo cut because of his lack jumper.  Those that want Rondo to be a player he's not will always undervalue him.

I would go with rambling.

I think it's pretty easy to evaluate his effort when he has such a glaring hole and yet no one, not a teammate, coach or GM, has ever complained about his work ethic.

It's confidence and repetition.

But I also actually think he made progress last year (which it appears some don't) so I think it's only a matter of time before he becomes what some would call decent.

I agree that it's confidence. Watching him shoot it seems like he hits a lot more clutch jumpers, but less regular jumpers in the flow of the game. To me this means that he can hit it when he needs to but doesn't have confidence in it being the best shot the offense can get when he's behind a screen.

I wanted him out of LV so he would stop partying with Lebron!  Bad influences RR...

couldn't have said it better myself. Yao Ming is an excellent FT shooter and i'd think he'd have longer fingers than RR. and while RR has improved his jumpshot, it's still not enough. look at Parker who has improved his midrange jumpshot tremendously.

if it's a confidence issue... i don't know. i have no bright ideas there.

and yet, when Sheed is out of shape, i don't recall anyone calling him out on it either. Of course, we as fans recognize it because we can see his "out-of-shapedness". but i just dont think it's in the Celtics culture to call out players in the media. not saying that RR doesn't work on his jumper coz i'm sure he does, but all i'm saying is that your point may not be as rock solid as you think it is.

Proportions have a lot to do with things.  Yao's hands may be large, but are they disproportionate to his body and the size of his palm?

Rondo's been called out for his stubbornness and his ouside shooting. It's not like they treat him with kid gloves.
