Apologies if this has already been linked, I've been out of town.

Thorpe has Harangody at 4, after Wall, Damion Jones and Cousins:

4. Luke Harangody, Celtics
Summer-league stats: 16.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.6 apg

He doesn't pass the eye test as far as NBA players are concerned, but he passes everything else. He shot the ball well, rebounded like a beast and played just about as well as any rookie could hope to. I'm not sure he'll play in the NBA at all this season, but he certainly showed that he has a future.

That's great.  It's certainly a good thing.  But we shouldn't get carried away.  There were times when the likes of Joe Forte, Jerome Moiso, Marcus Banks, and Kedrick Brown absolutely dominated summer league play.  And that never translated at all into the NBA.

So I hope he does work out for us.  I just wouldn't get too excited yet.

They all dominated? I was under the impression those guys all kind of underachieved through out their entire time here. But I could be mistaken. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sure he'll put up some beastly numbers this season...for the Red Claws.

good gracious....harangody at #4? ha, ha. i assume this does NOT mean he is considered to be worthy of the #4 pick in the draft.  ::)

well, at least it is fun to read such rave reviews. now if only harangody can play up to those lofty characterizations then the celtics would be in great shape.

sigh.... already i wish ainge could finish signing free agents and that training camp would start.

I said "dominated summer league play," not dominated regular season play.

I give Thorpe credit for giving his impressions on how guys played rather than where they were drafted. TP for him.

I agree, but the exception would be that luke also "dominated" college ball - in the sense that he was a 20-10 guy. Moiso and Brown definitely didn't dominate college like that. Forte and Banks had good college numbers I think, but were totally different kind of players.
Luke probably has a higher basketball IQ than all of those guys put together, and he's had to because he's so un-athletic. A lot of times that means un-NBA, but you never know. 3 of the other 4 guys (except Forte) had great athelticism, which is why they were drafted so high, but all washed out.
Basically, it's hard to compare Luke to our other past summer league stars b/c he's a different kind of player. Overall, rather have a guy who does really good in summer league - at least he has a chance. I tend to think that if a guy can't do anything in summer league then he's got no shot whatsoever with the real stuff.

I'm happy Luke is getting some good pub, but I doubt he see's very much time for us this year, especially if we add another big like Josh Boone, Sheed comes back, or we make the trade for Shaq.

Harangody is a throwback type of player.  Tommy will love him because he will see some similarities.  I will be happy to have him develop into a Harpring or Eric Williams but I wouldn't be too sad to see him become Brian Cardinal pre-injury.

His stock will never rise higher... time to swap him for Xavier Henry  ;)

He'd do a great service to the C's that way, but if not, I hope he developes nice playing for the rock lobsters. If he played at all with the Celtics I'd be very surprised.

The number hanging ceremony is next week.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think Luke is a 8-12 place in the rotation player in the NBA right now. I don't think he'll go above that, but to get a rotation player in the second round is like getting $100 bucks on a dollar scratch off. Its not going to change your world, but that doesn't mean you're not incredibly lucky.

We're only lucky in the sense that DA is running the show. His late 1st and 2nd round draft outcomes have been superb.

I do agree about Harangody's place in the league. His career success might depend a lot on finding a situation that accentuates his value and hides his weaknesses.
